Ok so I am applying this fall and was wondering if there were any other things I could take on to better improve my chances of getting into these schools.
Currently I am finishing up all my general ED courses and have already finished my pre requisites for both of these schools. I have a 4.0 GPA and my extra circulars consist of:
Mentorship program
Camp program at a nearby university
I work for the EOPS office at my school

Major? But obviously your chances are good to great depending on your major.

sorry. umm sociology major. or international development studies

I heard this is like crazy competitive and even 4.0’s get rejected

not too competitive at cal. I would say if you keep up the 4.0, then you have a…94.6% shot. Jk. But a really good shot. Idk what it’s like at ucla, probably not too much worse if any.

Btw, in recent years, social sciences had a 23.1% acceptance rate, which is right around average for cal. So you should be good.

I would advise you on getting started early on your personal statement. Jot down your ideas of what you want to talk about and start drafting your statement. It’s a long process and CAL is known for PS when deciding on admission. Also, I would join clubs on campus, such as AGS and get involved and apply for scholarships because there’s a whole section for awards/scholarships on UC apps. Hope this helps and good luck!

They take the PS into account for transfers? Well I mean I don’t really like any of the clubs on campus so I decided to join some at a university.

4.0?? Yeah, you aren’t in man, sorry to say. On a serious note, worry about keeping that 4.0 considering you probably only have 10-15 units of grades so far, if you are applying next fall.

no actually I have 44 units to date. I took some college courses while in high school. But yea thats what I am most concerned about

Well then keep your grades up, take challenging courses, and do some quality volunteer work. You will get in ANYWHERE if you do that. If you did get denied somewhere -public- with those stats then F*#k that school, you shouldn’t of attended in the first place.

YES, UCB in particular will read your personal statement and your personal statement has a BIG impact on your decision. If you don’t like any of the clubs on campus, try starting a club that’s related to your major. They also look for leadership! You have a really good GPA but to be on the safe side, I would get more involved in leadership and volunteer opportunities. GOOD LUCK!
