Chance Me - UCD, UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UCB

Hey guys,
I was really hoping if you could chance me at the following colleges? I really like all of them because I’ve gone to their campuses and I feel that I can fit in. I applied under College of Natural Resources for UCB and Arts and Sciences for the other colleges. Money is not an issue. My GPA is definitely too low for UCLA and UCB but I have a reason behind it; I went through two major family issues that I explained in my application. Below are my stats:

4.08 Weighted UC GPA, 3.73 Unweighted UC GPA, 3.93 Weighted Capped UC GPA
1420 SAT
750 Math II, 680 Chemistry (didn’t submit Chemistry, don’t know why I submitted Math 2)
Rank: Top 25th percentile
11 APs, 3 Community College Courses
Charter School In San Jose, CA

Work Experience/Community Service:
250+ hours of volunteer service a year (volunteer at Kaiser Permanente and I’m a shift leader today)

Extracurriculars:
President of 2 clubs: Math Club and Biology Olympiad Club (co-founded both of them)

  • Prepared all Math Club members that participated in MATHCOUNTS and they all placed in the MATHCOUNTS competition with Honorable Mention.

Vice-President of Youth Ending Cancer Club (co-founded this club as well)

  • Visited doctor’s clinics, interacted with patients, raised awareness about different types of cancers at public places and events

Raised $15000 for blood cancer patients for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 7 weeks by forming a team. I raised money by tutoring kids struggling with Math and Science. I also sold paintings (I’m an artist as well). We earned the Mission Award by the Senior Manager of Events of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Varsity Cross Country and Varsity Volleyball player

Earned different awards - Mission Honor Award, Science Department Award 2019

Summer Programs:

Stanford Clinical Anatomy Summer Program - I learned a lot about the human anatomy and surgical procedures, wrote about how this made me realize that I wanted to become a doctor, not bc of me falling into family expectations

COSMOS UC Davis 2019 (Cluster 11: Future Foods - Sustainable Aquaculture and Aquaponics) - I learned a lot about different agricultural practices, microbiology, and what we can do to have a sustainable society. This provided me wth a unique perspective on science that I never explored before.

I already know that my chances at UCLA and Berkeley are most likely slim because of my GPA and SAT. Could you guys please give me your thoughts on what my chances are, based off all this information provided? It would mean a lot.

I am going to just post the most recent UC statistical data below. Since decisions have started rolling out for some campuses already (early admits), it is pointless to chance you. What is done is done, so all you can do is wait.

You have some very good EC’s, solid test scores and rigorous course schedule. GPA is the only concern since it puts you below the 25th percentile for all but 3 UC’s.

2019 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 12%
UCLA: 7%
UCSD: 33%
UCSB: 32%
UCD: 47%
UCI: 35%
UCSC: 72%
UCR: 87%
UCM: 96%

2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:
UCB: 4.23 (4.15-4.30)
UCLA: 4.25 (4.18-4.32)
UCSD: 4.16 (4.03-4.28)
UCSB: 4.16 (4.04-4.28)
UCI: 4.13 (4.00-4.25)
UCD: 4.13 (4.00-4.26)
UCSC: 3.96 (3.76-4.16)
UCR: 3.90 (3.69-4.11)
UCM: 3.73 (3.45-4.00)

2019 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT totals:
UCB: 1340-1540

UCLA: 1330-1550
UCSD: 1300-1520
UCSB: 1280-1520
UCD: 1230-1490
UCI: 1250-1510
UCSC: 1200-1450
UCR: 1130-1400
UCM: 1020-1290

Best of luck.

Did you apply to any safeties?

@Gumbymom, Thank you so much!

@Mwfan1921 Yes, I have. I applied to Creighton University (got in with two scholarships totaling $25K per year), University of the Pacific (got their second highest scholarship with 24K per year and an invitation to apply for their honors program), Fordham University (got two scholarships totaling $29K per year), and University of Portland (got Presidential scholarship with $26K per year).

Congratulations on your acceptances!

Good luck as you wait for your remaining decisions.
