Chance me- UCLA Out of State

I’m from New Jersey and I’m interested in UCLA for college. Since this is a public school and part of the UC system I know it is extremely competitive for everyone

I would apply as either a human biology or general biology major

Would I have a good chance of even being considered with a 4.38 weighted GPA and a 1450 SAT.
—I know GPA is only part of what they look at, so I’m just asking if my GPA is even competitive enough to apply

Is your family interested in paying 65k per year for UCLA? Are you hoping to apply to med school?

I am hoping to go to dental school

Check the OOS admitted students stats for 2019. 2020 Freshman profile should be available in January/Feb 2021.

As stated above, are you and your family prepared to spend $260K for Undergrad + the costs of Dental school for you to attend UCLA?

Application Review Criteria:

* LOS ANGELES

  • Very important: Academic GPA, Application essay, Rigor of secondary school record, Standardized test scores
  • Important: Character/personal qualities, Extracurricular activities, Talent/ability, Volunteer work, Work experience
  • Considered: First generation college student, Geographical residence, AP/IBHL exam scores
  • Note: GPA, test scores, course work, number of and performance in honors and AP courses most important. Essay considered. Strong senior program important. Extracurricular activities, honors and awards also reviewed.
    • For the College of Letters and Science, the applicant's major is not considered during the review process.

Also UC’s only use 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation and OOS applicants can only use AP/IB courses taken during this time for weighted GPA.

How are they with financial aid for OOS?

If they only use 10th and 11th, my weighted gpa would be around 4.45-4.5

UCLA offers virtually no need-based aid OOS.

Oh, that leaves this option almost unreasonable. Thank you for your help
