I am an out-of-state applicant from Indiana that applied to UCLA. I was wondering if any past or current applicants, current students, or anybody who has knowledge regarding acceptance criteria for UCLA could provide some insight on my chances of getting accepted. It’s been my dream school since the fourth grade, and I can’t wait for the March decisions to come out!

I thought I wrote some solid essays, and I do come from an unordinary circumstance because I have a brother with autism.
All input is highly appreciated! Thank you! Go Bruins!
It depends on the major. Engineering is very competitive, unlikely you’ll get in with those scores. But seeing your AP’s I suppose it’s something like political science maybe ?
Biology
UCLA: Slight reach/Reach
Agreed, biology is tough.
You have an OK shot, but GPA is low for UCLA. Chance me for UCLA, anyone? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1728432-chance-an-international-for-elite-schools-and-ucs-will-chance-back.html#latest
The average GPA is a 4.3. Could’ve been a little higher to set me apart.
@isaacs22 Oh, my bad. For some reason thought the UW average was higher. Just checked the profile, and you’re right.
Yeah, but you have a point though. It says I meet the requirements, but there are people with higher gpas and test scores that don’t get in and people with lower scores that do. It’s tough to judge because of their holistic admission process. I guess I’ll have to wait and see. Thanks for the input though. Much appreciated.
Your application is strong. I’m not totally familiar with UCLA or the standards of admitted students but I have a few friends who got accepted/go there. Although they were good students, just by looking on paper I’d say you have a stronger application. But, as you said, the holistic aspect of admissions can make it tough. One tip I have is try to get your ACT score up a point or two if possible. Again, I don’t know what is considered a good test score for UCLA so maybe I’m just talking nonsense.
I have a brother with autism as well! I think that it is definitely a unique perspective that is powerful in applications if you articulated it well.
Best of luck!

It’s definitely a unique circumstance! Is he high or low spectrum?
At UC’s the major you pick does not matter unless you’re looking to get a direct admit into a certain program. Many apply undecided because of that. As for out of state, I can see that because of the tuition issue. Thanks!
Low reach only because of oos, otherwise your ECs are really strong.
You have a chance, not too much of a reach honestly.
However, UC schools will not give any financial aid to OOS students, so I hope you realize that it means you will be footing the $40,000 a year bill yourself. Please tell me you realize this.
chance me back!!!

Haha yes I do. I calculated that my tuition would be around $30,000 actually. I’m hoping to get a couple smaller scholarships to bring me down to the tuition it would be for IU.
Also, if I got accepted there I would ask to meet them to see if I could get in-state if I claimed residency after a year. That would out quite a bit.
He’s high on the spectrum. How about your brother?
He’s about mid-to-high. He’s in regular classes but his work is modified. He can talk well, but can’t hold a typical conversation and has temper tantrums from time to time. If you’ve ever seen Rain Man, he is just like him.
I have not seen Rain Man, but your brother sounds a lot like mine.
Best of luck with your applications!
