Chance me: UCLA, USC, Cal, CalTech, Stanford.

High School Junior.
16 Years old.
Asian-American Male. (California)
Less than $25,000 income household. (3 members total. Me, mom, bro, dad passed away 1999)

Freshman AGPA: 3.60 (Weighted) (Moved to LA mid semester)
Sophomore AGPA: 3.74 (Weighted) (Moved AGAIN mid year) (1 AP, 1 Honors)

Current (Junior) GPA: 4.2 (Weighted) (2 AP, 1 Honors) (My first year not moving in high school.)

Extra Curricular: Member of Key Club, Board Member of Engineering Club - Building a 16 foot solar powered boat to represent our school at a race (Placing pending.) [Going to be leader of the club next year], Some community service, Member of Bottles for the Bay (Recycling), Breakdance Club, Piano.

SAT: Will edit when score comes tomorrow.
ACT: Just took it.
SAT II: Don't know yet. (But taking English, Math 2, Physics)

AP Euro. Exam: 2 (Moved in mid semester...)

I don't look all that great on paper. Especially my first two years, where moving around messed me up quite a bit - making and saying bye to friends was tough, learning the new school systems and being an outcast. Most importantly, in LA they didn't even have textbooks for Biology, which I got my only C in.

And for next year I'm planning to work really hard - just trying to work my chances up. Taking 5 AP Classes and Piano II/Adv. while doing community service and holding a job, but I may have to drop some service if I make it on the basketball team. (I really hope I do, but the chances are slim.) I plan to major in either Mechanical Engineering or Medicine.

not looking too good. gpa is not high, but maybe if you get a 2250 + on the SAT you will have a chance at some of those schools.

CalTech and Stanford- No way. Even with stellar SAT scores (2300+) it’s a pretty big reach. CalTech says that getting perfect SAT score applicants isn’t uncommon for them.

UCLA is a reach

Get a 2200+ and I’d say you have a 60/40 at USC.

Oh, and also Cal Poly Pomona and UC Irvine, please.

With good SAT scores UC Irvine is a 50/50

Good enough SAT scores might get you a full ride at Cal Poly Pomona

CR: 600
Math: 660
Writing: 580
Essay: 8
MC: 57

Total should be 1840 for SAT. (My first one.)

Kind of disappointed in the score… Wanted 2000+, but it was my first time and I’m late in my Junior year, so I have to retake it fast, yes?

Hopefully this will give more insight.

yea, take it again and you will do better, probably around 2000. if you get 2000+ you have a chance at UCLA and USC

does it hurt me if they sent the score already? the collegeboard “send scores” function couldn’t be revoked this week, so it was sent. perhaps if i do better next time, it will show improvement senior year, rather than just one good score thats obviously selected?
