Chance me UMich, NYU, UVA? Low GPA, Strong Extracurriculars

Hey everyone I know my GPA isn’t the best, but wanted to give this a shot.

GPA: 3.7
ACT: 33
Breakdown: R-34 W-33 M:34 S:32

Extracurriculars:

  • Founder and President of Project Ethos Public Speaking club at my school (www.projectethos.net)
  • Founding logistics director of volunteering organization with 950+ volunteers reached and 50+ venues managed
  • President of school data analytics club
  • Creative director of city's art council

Honestly my strongest EC is probably Project Ethos cause it’s new and upcoming and the volunteering thing but I know my GPA is low. Essays are looking alright too.

Are you in-state for UVA? And is that a unweighted GPA?

You have really great stats. I can’t confirm or deny whether or not you will get into certain colleges because I myself am not an admissions rep. You evidently have a good chance at all of these schools. Good luck!

If you are out of state for UMich and UVA, I’d say they would be a low reach. NYU looks like a match.

I think you would have a chance at each of these schools–strongest chance at NYU, then Mich, then UVA. UVA is extremely difficult OOS, as is Michigan, but they still keep a near 50/50 ratio with instate vs. oos. Good luck!

UMich would be a mid reach. Your admission rate is probably around the average for OOS which is ~20%. Your GPA is below admission average while your ACT is above admission average for UMich.
