Hi, all! This will be my second time applying to UNC. Didn’t get in last year as a student straight from high school.
Incoming Major: Hoping for the Communications/Public Relations field. I have done a lot of relevant work already for this field. Read below for more info.
I’ll be coming in with about 38 credits, so as a sophomore, and I plan on taking a few summer courses.
HIGH SCHOOL:
GPA: 4.5 W, took a lot of IB classes and got all A’s in them.
ACT: 26 (I know. My essay touches on why this was, keep reading!)
Clubs/Extracurriculars: SGA, Latin Club, Peer Buddies (works with special needs students), Secretary of Environmental Club (helped organize a Youth Climate event), President of Model United Nations (organized out of state trips for 50 students), Prom committee, Yearbook staff.
JOBS: held a job for four years (became the assistant manager), interned at a photography studio,
1st generation four year college student
COLLEGE:
Elon University GPA: 4.0, President’s List
Clubs/Extracurriculars: Worked on school magazine and published 10+ online and print articles, worked with HerCampus (largest national college magazine for women) and published 10+ online articles, Autism Speaks U member, an SGA member, Historical Neighbourhood Ambassador.
JOBS: Started my own small business selling custom embroidered jackets, held my assistant manager job from high school (4+ years working there), and became the Social Media Specialist for a Raleigh real estate company which is relevant to my field of study.
Transferred out of Elon after one semester due to lack of diversity and overall unhappiness, which I talk about in one of my essays. I was not the right fit, so now I am a full-time student at my local community college where I anticipate a 4.0 GPA here.
My ACT score is what I’m worried most about. I was sexually assaulted, stalked, and harassed my freshman/sophomore year which made school very difficult which I talk about in my essays. I talk about how I decided to become my own person again after those events, which sparked my grades to trend upwards again. My grades dipped during those years, but have been on the upwards trend since!
I also got a really great recommendation from a professor at Elon.
WOW! Thanks for reading, if you made it this far! Please, chance me! I really want to be a Tar Heel!
