Given that you’re doing medical relief and working at a hospital, I’m gonna guess you’re interested in health care. I will warn you that health care is insanely competitive at UMich and that a 24 ACT is going to sink you in a hurry if you want to be a doctor/pharmacist/nurse/kinesiologist/dentist/medical researcher. You need to get that score up. Also…if you’ve taken AP Calculus, AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Physics…and have done well…this will help you.
If I’m wrong on health care and you’re interested in something less competative, you still need to improve that darned ACT, but your gpa will help.
Someone wrote me a PM recently accusing me of being contrary and telling some people a 3.9 gpa is terrific, and others that a 3.9 is on the edge…but the truth is, a LOT depends on your major, if you’re instate or out of state, if you’ve proven core competencies with the AP classes that support your major, etc… If you want to be a doctor, go to Ross, go to law school, do any of the engineering programs…yes, you’re going to need to augment that 3.9 and cross your fingers hard because the competition is brutal. If you’re more interested in a less popular major and come in well prepared having given in a lot of thought…you might scrape by handily with somewhat lower stats. Just kinda depends on what you’re hoping to do and what you’ve done…and why.
