I am applying to Mechanical Engineering as my first choice and Physics as my 2nd. I know my chances are slim for engineering, but tell me what you think for both of my choices.

Thanks

Bump, please chance me! Thanks!

My son applied 2 years ago - top 20% of his class, approx 2100 SAT, applied to college of Natural Sciences - did not get in. If you are not in the top 7-9% of your class assume UT is a reach. If you are interested in business or engineering assume it is a very very tough reach. Look into A&M - in my mind it is now a better school than UT (my father was a Dean at UT and I graduated from UT). If you are set on UT consider CAP, but it is very difficult to get into engineering from CAP.

Thank you for the advice. If anyone else has an opinion I would appreciate it greatly!

Low reach. If you’re in-state you should think of applying to UH or Texas State; they’re both good schools as well.

Low reach/high match. They might look upon your situation as a unique one, never know. Also you could always transfer in via UTSA or other affiliated schools. Some of my friends did that.

Low Reach.
