CHANCE ME Wash U ED Class of 2023

I am currently a high school junior thinking of applying to Wash U ED in the fall of 2018.

HOOK: double legacy- both parents attended for undergrad

intended major: neuroscience/human development- hope to study developmental disorders

-Unweighted GPA: 4.0

-Weighted GPA: 4.37

-11 AP and 10 honors/advanced courses by end of high school
AP Exams: sophomore year: bio(4) gov(5); junior year: chem, lang & comp, apush, seminar; senior year: physics 1, psych, calc BC, research, French

-competitive public high school with about 350 kids in a grade, school doesn’t rank but top 5%

1580 on SAT, 790 math 790 English

SAT subject tests: 710 molecular bio (probably won’t send), taking chem and math 2 this year

-ECs – created a program to teach taekwondo to kids with autism, taekwondo black belt, high school varsity swim team, chem 4 kids club, chemistry olympiad club (teaching assistant next year), women in STEM club (president), student unified business club (president, help create small businesses for kids with special needs), Friendship Circle (attend events and hang out with peers with special needs, hopefully will have a leadership role next year), attended National Student Leadership Conference Neuroscience and Psychology and UCLA summer discovery, peer tutoring

-employment – not a paying job but this summer I was one of 1-2 HS students selected to intern at the Yale Child Study Center researching with Yale doctors and hopefully learning more about developmental disorders, paid assistant in first grade Hebrew School class shadowing student with special needs

-honors/awards- National Honors Society, probably National Merit Scholar (1500 PSAT)

-asking for recs from my AP Chem teacher, AP Lang teacher, and possible supplemental recs from AP Seminar teacher and/or doctor I research with at Yale Child Study Center

demographics: white, female, from Connecticut

Low reach just because WashU is approaching the ~15% acceptance rate.

Stats are good and ECs look fine. With double legacy and demonstrated interest you have a good chance. Make some visits and set up an interview as soon as possible. ED definitely helps.
