White, male, junior in public high school in MA
4.5 weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted
Top 10% of class (we don’t do class rankings in my school)

PSAT – 1360 (SAT scheduled for May and June)

SAT subject tests scheduled for August

By the end of senior year I’ll have 11 AP classes.

ECs – by the end of senior year, I’ll have:
3 years of academic team, captain of the team, high scorer at my school, lots of regional and some state medals
2 years of debate
4 years of track (two varsity)
4 years of xc (two varsity)
volunteer tutoring
volunteering with an international human rights group, significant involvement with very good LOR
NHS

I want to study international politics/economics. WAMC at Brown, Cornell, UMass Amherst, SUNY Binghamton, Harvard, Chicago, Johns Hopkins, William & Mary, Georgetown. Thanks!

Hi! You look fairly similar to me (junior, debate, varsity sport, NHS, interested in economics) and I’m looking at a couple of those same schools. As you probably know, you would be far more competitive at some of those tougher places with higher standardized tests, so definitely try to get your SAT score up at least 100 points or so (easier said than done, I know). I think your activities are very good (maybe nothing exceptional, but probably better than mine, so I’m a bit jealous:) ). Obviously the ivies you listed and JHU are reaches for just about everybody. It looks like a pretty good list overall though, as long as you can get 1450+ on your sat or 32+ on the ACT. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know I need to get the scores up. I always tested really, really well until this year, always 99th percentile, but I didn’t do as well on the PSAT. I did a practice ACT and got like a 27. I’m taking a Kaplan prep course now, so I hope I can get that score up
