I think you have a good shot a U of C. Columbia is hard to predict as it’s a high chance for everyone. But I think your minority status gives you a reasonable advantage. Awesome SAT score, it will definitely help you and ameliorate your below-average GPA. The upward trend is great. If you talked about your passion for your ECs then you’ll be fine. I’d say a generally great shot at both.

Please chance me back!

thanks for chancing! I’ll chance you back now!

Opinions/Insights from anyone else would be appreciated.

Your ECs are good, SAT score is pretty good. You just need to focus on bringing up your GPA and start working on those essays. I think you have a good chance. Maybe you can try out the ACT and see if you can get a high score with that?
I concur with what seems to be the general consensus regarding your r

Alright, I shall work on improving my resume! Any specific suggestions in regards to that?

Thanks for the insightful reply. I shall chance back! : )

With GPA just take hard classes that you know you can pass. EC’s I would recommend something with leadership such as starting a club or even interning at a place to do with film (I take it that is your main interest?) and you should be set. Goodluck!

hmm, alright! Yuup, film is my main interest, i’ll start looking into a couple internships! : )
thanks again.

3.5 is not a low gpa at all. I think you definitely have a chance especially considering your SAT scores, and your level of interest. I bet if you write one heck of an essay they will not be able to pass you up! Keep that upward trend going and they will be asking you to join. Just remember, if you really want to make something happen you will make it happen. If you have a good attitude you can do anything!

thanks, syrupe! I appreciate those incredibly motivating words. : )

Indeed a 3.5 is not low, but honestly: it is low for your college choices…Your SAT too is indeed solid but it is what an average applicant aspiring for these colleges possess… Regarding, the FA, we seem to be sailing on the same boat but the only difference is that Im not even Canadian… :P

But your art supplement, essays and LORs could definitely favor you… Get these and that ‘must’ pinch of luck (for columbia) and you could expect a seat there… A lot of students apply to these universities with low acceptance rates… your Essays, LORs and supporting documents must “sell” you as a favorable student (Your ECs somewhat do…) . And I think you should also add some safeties.

Im no one to discourage you or to even try to, but it was my honest opinion, I wish the best for you and I hope you get in both of them… It is a difficult journey but you seem strong and I wish you all the best…These colleges will be lucky to have you my friend! ;)

BEST OF LUCK!!!

You raise a great point about my SAT and the average applicant, I had not though of that. Thanks for taking the time to write such a wonderful reply!

While your GPA is low for your prospective schools, everything else on your app is outstanding. A 2200 is an amazing SAT score, and your extracurriculars are great!
It might come down to your essay, but you definitely have a shot.
