White Male
Small town in southern Ontario (Canada)

GPA: On a scale of 100, I'm looking at about a 92 UW (I'm doing alot better this year, but I did poorly in my freshman/sophomore years)
School doesn't rank, but I'm in the top ten students I believe.

SAT: Taking in May. I'm guessing I'll score around 2100ish...I can't seem to score well in the CR or Math sections for some reason
SAT2s: (Taking in June) Estimate: Biology 750-800, Math2 730ish, French w/Listening 800

President of GIVE (Global Initiatives and Visions of the Earth) Club, a hybrid envrionmental-human rights club. I was one of the founding members. Our latest initiative was making reusable book bags that we sold, donating our profits to the Spread the Net Foundation (which donates malaria nets to African families). A local arts store has recently offered to sell our bags.

Co-Editor/Science Columnist for the school newspaper.

Helped lead our school to a first place finish at the Provincial Odyssey of the Mind competition in Windsor. We didn't qualify for Worlds in Iowa, but our coach is debating this because some teams who scored lower than us in other divisions were invited....

Starting up a science program for younger kids, trying to raise interest in science in the community. Through two-hour weekly sessions, I hope to help younger kids feel my passion for science. I have principal approval and teacher advisors on board, I'm just waiting to set a date and invite schools. I will obviously continue this into next year.

Member of the Enrichment Committee grade 9-present, organizing programs for younger Enrichment students.

Last year, went on a three-month exchange to France (I'm a French Immersion student, and I'm fully bilingual).

Last summer, attended MedQUEST medical camp for a week. Had placements at various medicial clinics, learned how to do ultrasounds, x-rays, etc. Hosted by Western University

This summer, (assuming I'm accepted, which I'll know soon) I'll be going to a six week summer research camp at a research institute up North, hopefully studying molecular biology.

Self-studying AP Biology, taking next month.

Writing several math contests.

Work about 8-16 hours a week at a video store, since august.
I've also worked as a receptionist at my parents' chiropractic clinic for about 5 years.
Worked at the Public Library for about 10 months back in grade 9.

Hoping to start tutoring soon.
I'll also be starting a 110-hour independent study. I'm hoping to put together an encyclopedia, but I have to meet with the enrichment coordinator for my region to confirm.
I completed a 30-hour extending activity in grade 10 focusing on how our mind interprets morality.

I got an amazing reference letter from my physics teacher this year to apply to DRSA (the summer research program), so I know I'll have good rec's. I am also a good essay-writer when I need to be:)

Any thoughts? I feel like I missed stuff, but I don't want to rant anymore haha (I know this is a lot to read).
Thanks in advance! :)

If you could get your SAT score to ~2300, you might see a few scholarships headed your way.

Scholarships? I’m hoping to get a couple canadian scholarships, but none of the schools i want to go to offer merit-based scholarships, do they? Or are you suggesting I should find a school with merit-based scholarships?

bummmmppppp

anyone? pleeease

Harvard/Princeton: 10%
Dartmouth: 15%
Amherst: 20%

any specific reasons for those numbers?
any other advice?
thanks:)

bummp pleaase

hon…i wouldn’t be looking for chances just yet…
you really need hard numbers to get an idea…
assuming you get everything you want, you’d be a good shot at all those schools
sadly…no one is a match or safety for those places…they just have too many applicants for those spots

you have as good, if not better, of a chance as anyone
