Chance me?

In-state. I want to study Biomedical Engineering, so my question really is if I could get into the Swanson School of Engineering. Please note that due to me being a lazy, self-absorbent ass, my application has JUST been sent in and will probably arrive at Pitt before Halloween.

My SAT scores are 2030 and 2020, and my superscore is 2080 (superscore for just CR and Math is 1370). Out of school, I have a job in a sports retail store and volunteer to phonebank during local and national elections. I also play soccer and basketball (not for my school). I will be playing varsity tennis for my school next year.

That aside, my main problem is my GPA. Weighted, it will be about a 3.55. Most of my classes are honors and AP classes, which I have gotten As and Bs in, except for AP Biology, which I found extremely difficult in junior year and ended up getting a C in. I am taking 2 APs and 2 Honors classes in my senior year (Clear upward trend in my grades since freshman year).

I know my GPA is not as impressive as many others who will apply, but if I continue to work hard and write a great essay along with two great recommendations, honestly, what are my chances of getting in? Have I applied too late?

P.S, I actually handed in my application back in July when I attended a “Ready…Set…Pitt” event. They have all my information, the only thing that is required is my transcript, which my school will send in the mail tomorrow, along with my 2 rec letters and essay. I would guess that all that will arrive within 10 days of being sent. Still too late for Swanson?

Considering that the essay’s the most important part, it will definitely boost your application. Keep working hard, and don’t worry that much about your GPA. With a mediocre essay, I’d say maybe 50-50, with a great essay, at least 75%.

I’m no expert, but your SATs are great and with a great essay, good recs, it’s pretty likely.

the essay is definitely not the most important part for pitt

From everything I have seen Your SAT score is the most important factor at Pitt. With your CR M score I would say you would be accepted.
