Class ranking + overall GPA? If in top 10% you are in good shape.

Your SAT scores are in the general match range for admitted & enrolled students. Try to score 700+ on your second Subject Test.

I am in the top 4% of my class!
Thank you so much for the advice.

Dear debategeek : Let’s first look at your core curriculum. In terms the sciences, your last hardcore science was freshman Biology and while sophomore year AP Environmental can be classified as a science, this is considered one of the “AP Lite” subjects as opposed to AP Biology, Chemistry, or Physics. On the mathematics front, this appears grade-wise to be an area of struggle and it does not appear that you are on a track for AP Calculus AB or BC based on the lack of precalculus in your junior year. History and English tracks look fine although the “B” in your junior year could use some attention. Lastly, your Spanish trajectory looks short of an AP/IB level curriculum.

So what does this mean? From a difficulty of curriculum perspective, you will not achieve AP level work in three of the five major subject areas that Boston College evaluates most heavily for incoming applicants. While you state your GPA to be in the Top 4%, if AP/IB courses are offered by your school in the areas mentioned above, your GPA will be taken with a grain of salt. Boston College is looking for the hardest curriculum amongst its high school applicants.

Your SAT Math score is in the bottom quartile while your Writing/Reading scores are certainly in the acceptance range.

Sports and arts involvement are missing in your profile. You will want to discuss your hospital volunteerism and the subsequent impact in your statement connecting to why Boston College should consider your application.

Again, there is little that can be done on your class curriculum at this point which is most concerning. My fear is that there are too many areas where you are short of the top level course work at your High School.

I strongly suggest you have a convo with an admissions officer at BC. They are extremely helpful. You are probably aware that BC does not have a massive “person of color” population, but they are always looking for strong candidates and your profile seems relatively competitive. That said, it is unclear what ranking your high school has; receiving an “A” in AP Enviro, for example, but then getting a 2 on the actual AP test seems incongruent. All universities know what the level of rigor is for any given high school and they are ranked. I also suggest you have a convo with the AHANA office at BC. [Office of AHANA Student Programs - Boston College](http://www.bc.edu/offices/ahana/) They provide good counsel for kids of color. Main things: work hard on grades and test scores, show BC they are your top choice, write essays from the heart. Good luck!

Just noticed you said you were not Native American, so the above about kids of color does not apply to kids from India! ;)
