Chance Me!

Chance me for UChicago, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, Emory, NYU and UGA.

The Numbers:
I'm a junior in Atlanta, GA with a 3.89-3.9 GPA at a school with fairly rigorous academics. I've taken all the honors courses available at my school. I took AP Psychology and earned a 5 on the exam last year. If it counts for anything, I took AP Psychology online. I'm currently taking AP Calculus AB, AP Language and Composition, AP US History, and AP Latin, and I expect (based on my grades and such) 4s and 5s on the exams in May. I am also taking five more APs next year, one of which will be an online course, and another I will have to essentially create with a few like-minded classmates.

As for SATs and the ACT, I earned a 2030 on the SAT (I'm planning on retaking that. Based on my PSAT scores and practice tests, it should be much higher than that dismally low score), a 780 on the SAT Spanish with Listening, and a 33 on the ACT (35 in English, 33 in Math, 32 in Science, and 31 in Reading). I'm planning on taking the SAT Math Level 2, Chemistry, and Latin tests later this year. I don't know if this matters, but this year, I've been self-studying/meeting with the Chemistry teacher outside of school to learn the material for the SAT Chemistry test (I took Honors Chem last year and wasn't taught some of the material on that test).

Every year, in May, my school awards students in each subject. I've earned an award in intermediate Latin and in English. In addition, I earned a magna cum laude on the National Latin Exam in freshman year, and a summa cum laude on the exam last year (each year I take a different level; it's not the same exam, exactly).

Background:
As I mentioned before, I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA in a middle-class family. I'm female, hispanic, piebald (it's similar to partial albinism), and bisexual (does those last two even matter?). A significant part of my family came from Scotland (possibly of some value to Carnegie). As for legacy, my mother earned her Masters' at Columbia. Currently, I attend a small, all-girls school.
In college, I plan on majoring in Chemistry or Psychology, or both.

Extracurriculars:
National/Georgia Junior Classical League
I've been a member since freshman year and plan to continue until I graduate. This year I was voted/appointed secretary/historian of my school's chapter, and in May I plan on running for vice president for next year.

Internship
This past summer I interned at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. My school's internship coordinator received stellar reviews of my performance.
This coming summer, I plan on interning at a science research lab, working with material analysis (hopefully).

Tutoring
This semester, I start tutoring middle school students and possibly some underclassmen in English and writing.

Piano
I've participated in many a competition and audition. In these, I almost always place or receive an honorable mention—or, in the case of the Piano Guild, I always receive excellent marks. I've been playing for almost ten years now.

Dance
I've been dancing flamenco for seven years (granted, there was a brief hiatus when I had to find a new studio). I have not been able to perform yet, but there are some coming up that I should be participating in.

Study Abroad
At my school, study abroad is compulsory. I have not travelled through the school yet, but next spring I will be taking a trip to London to study British literature with some of my classmates.

Martial Arts
I started taking karate this summer. I only have a white belt/ten kyu, but I plan on continuing with this sport and earning higher-ranking belts.

National Honor Society
I was inducted in sophomore year. I have done some community service since, but my school isn't very focused on the National Honor Society being more than just an award.

Student Leader
My school has this thing (I can't even figure out what to call it) called Earth and Sky. The school, middle and upper together, is split into Earth and Sky, and there are 8-10 "families" within these teams, with each family containing middle school and upper school students. Each family has a "mother" or "guardian," an upperclassman who leads and advises the younger ones. I am my family's guardian and will be next year, too.

NYU: Low match
UGA: Safety
Emory: Low match
CMU: Match/High match (depends on how much weight Hispanics have on admissions decisions)
Columbia: Reach (legacy makes it reachable)
U Chicago: High match (beware the exotic prompts)
