I am a charismatic person and have been told numerous times that in an interview, I will shine. I hope that holds true and I would love to get an interview. How am I doing?

From the kids I know who were admitted to BU class of 2017, it seems like a B- or a B average is needed. AP classes are not required, (these kids did not take them). The kids I am referring to do not participate in much extra curricular activity. In comparison, I don’t think you have to worry.

Can someone chance me as well?!
I’m also a junior at a very competitive high school in the bay area.
My sophomore year grades were not good at all because of personal family issues, but there is an upward trend in my gpa.

this summer, i’m planning on volunteering at Stanford Hospital and tutoring kids in math.
I also have around 200 community service hours.

Last summer, I took Psychology at a local community college and received a B, which would be an A weighted, correct? would that factor into my GPA?
but this spring quarter, I’m planning on taking physics, and over the upcoming summer, I’m planning on taking Statistics, Chemistry, and Business, which would all be weighted because i’m taking it @ a cc right? :o
if it helps, i also got a 231 on my psat, and i researched a little, and i think i have a prettty good chance at being a national merit semifinalist! i’m not 100% sure if my gpa will hold me back from being a finalist though, but apparently if i received finalist, i’ll receive a $20k renewable scholarship from bu ^___^.

so i know my gpa isn’t great at alll, but is there anything i can do to increase my chances of admission?!

First off, I think you’ll definitely get into B.U., no problem. You’re definitely above average!

Really excited that you’re applying for High School Honors! I went last year, and I really enjoyed it! However, you will HATE living in Warren Towers over the summer! Last year, my roommate and I had three fans and would try to keep the window open but we would constantly be sweating. But you will probably barely be in the dorm so it shouldn’t be a big deal. The library and GSU are the best places to study because there’s A/C, and if you actually spend more than two hours in the library I would suggest bringing a blanket! The food at Warren is actually pretty good, the main problem is that it gets old fast. I would suggest having $15 on hand for 2-3 off campus meals, I frequently ate at some places in Kenmore Square (there’s a wonderful frozen yogurt shop in the square called Zynga, a little on the expensive side depending on what you want but definitely worth it) and sometimes we’d venture to Quincy Market for food too.

I really couldn’t have asked for a better summer! I feel like I’m better prepared for college than everyone else I know. The classes are really intense (I took Intro to IR and Intro to Cultural Anthropology), and don’t expect to get stellar grades easily, but if you work hard you will get an A. Last year, Matt (who was the program director and I think still is, he’s awesome) planned amazing outings: we went to a Sox game, to a beach in NH, on a duck tour, a sunset cruise, and went to see a musical. Boston is an amazing place to be and I admit to exploring the city when I should have been studying (if you have your BU ID, a lot of the art museums around the city are free)! Most of my friends were actually in the Research program, since they had the same schedule as us. Despite the minor cons, there are so many great things about the program that I think you’ll love!! :)
