Chance Me?

I applied to Vanderbilt as a engineering science major and intend to have a concentration in matsci. I also put chemistry as my backup but I'm afraid I won't get in because I can't do well on standardized testing...its okay if you think I have no chance at all guys!

Gender: female
Location: new jersey

ACT 31: (30 math 31 writing 29 reading 32 science and I got an 11/12 on my essay)
SAT II: Math 2 610 Chem 700
APs: Chem (4) Lang (3) Physics B Calc AB Gov and Pol and Human Geo.
GPA: 93 (school doesn't use a 4.0)
Extra Curricular: Science and Tech Club, Chem Olympics Team (placed first last year in my event), Forensics Team, Varsity Swimming (captain), Band, Pit orchestra, Honors Band at a local college, Peer Leadership, NHS, and more that I don't feel like typing out but this is a pretty general idea.
Work: I worked at an accounting firm and now I work at The Tutoring Center Franchise.
Summer work: I did 2 summer programs, one through Rutgers and I was published to NCBI through that. I got accepted into PAVE, but I didn't go due to financial stuff and ended up going to Cornell Summer college (got A's in my 2 classes and sent that transcript)
Other: I am lab assistant for my chem teacher and she wrote my a brilliant LOR. I was also a teaching/lab assistant for my research class junior year (because of the Rutgers program)
feel free to ask me about anything else!

oh and
I applied to Colorado School of Mines, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Cal Tech, Cornell, MIT, RPI, McGill, Vandy, and Hopkins. I'm still waiting for McGill, Vandy, and Hopkins. I got waitlisted at RPI (sent my SATs there :P) and got into Mines and UIUC. Rejected everywhere else (not surprised.)
I'm stressing because I hated mines and am afraid about UIUC because its so big I mean I liked it but still and right now that's my only option and I don't want to hate my school and have to transfer ):

Corinne–These “chance me” questions are difficult because it is hard to know what is going through the minds of the admissions officers but I think you have some great (interesting and varied) ECs/summer work but, as you noted, your stats are not the strongest part of your application and are a little on the low end for Vanderbilt, which had become crazy difficult to get into over the last few years.

UIUC is a great school and being located in the mid-west is a plus (of course I am biased since I grew up in “Big Ten” territory but the people are so genuine and down-to-earth). Another plus there is that it looks like a sizable percentage of students live on campus even after freshman year which is unusual at large schools; that may be a way to find your niche within the big school environment (look into their Living-Learning Community options for housing). Be prepared for cold weather though :-)

Best of luck to you in college next year!
