Chance me?

Completely agreed cpraf104.

First of all… Your race never entered my mind. I didn’t even know that people from India are considered “Asians” as a race. I thought Indians were a completely different race; Indians don’t even look Asian to me. And I would ponder that if you asked a Korean or Japanese if he was the same race as an Indian, he would say, “no.”

Second of all… Stanford is a reach for everyone. Even though they are flexible with numbers, etc, you know the only reason they do that is for famous people or people they want very badly. For the average incoming student, the standards are high. very high.

Over 30,000 students each year get rejected from Stanford. I read that many have perfect SAT Scores, are Class Presidents, etc…

So if you want to send in your application with your SAT scores (it is required for you to show them ALL of your SAT scores), the admissions people will see them. Maybe they won’t care.

I personally think that you should show schools your strengths, not your weaknesses. Unfortunately for you, Stanford requires you to send in all of your test scores. The 640s are hard to ignore. The goal is to get past 700 on each section of the SAT IF you are applying to Elite Level Schools.

Okay, that’s fine. I agree with you- race matters. But bring race up on your own accord. Don’t project it on someone who said nothing of the sort.

I agree. That’s why I have been inviting Crusader to explain where he/she disagrees with me. And that’s why I found it objectionable that Crusader told me to “be quiet.”

If CC doesn’t have shreds of hierarchy, then why is the first thing below my username “Senior Member”? Why does CC prominently list my join date and post count? Why do posts in some forums (teen life, or whatever) not count towards that number?

The fact is, generally when someone has above 1000 posts, they are someone who knows a thing or two about college admissions. You simply cannot spend that much time on this website and not come away more knowledgeable on the process. They are someone who has shown a willingness to help out, likely commenting on numerous topics. On the flipside, a lot of the newer posters aren’t as familiar with the process, yet these posters are free to voice their opinions and provide help as much as anyone else.

CC knows all this, so they created a “road-sign” beneath the username that allows readers to quickly evaluate a poster’s credibility.

Now, if someone wants to take the initiative to tell one of these veteran posters to “be quiet,” that is his or her choice. But I’m going to call it out, because it isn’t productive for the health of the forum to have newer members alienating older ones. It also isn’t productive for a new poster to blatantly question the credibility of a Senior Member. Yes, the post count disparity speaks for itself, but not every reader knows to look there.

Most likely a rejection. Your ECs are EXTREMELY weak and you don’t stand out as much as an average applicant. At my school, about 10~15 students go to the top ivy leagues every year and 1 student to Stanford every 3 years or so.

I would just say the OP doesn’t stand out much, like the average applicant. Remember, the average applicant is a rejection. Probably 1/5 applicants stand out in a positive way, and those are the ones with a fighting chance. 1/5 applicants stand out in a negative way (from the article where an officer said about 80% of applicants are academically qualified to succeed at Stanford). The average, or 3/5 of the applicant pool, is where I would put the OP. Good grades, test scores, and normal extracurricular activities.

I think it’s easy to see all the rejection profiles on CC and think the bar is extremely high just to be an “average rejection.” Remember, though, that this is CC.

I’m not saying you don’t know things. I have no doubt that you’re probably very well qualified. I am also not saying you shouldn’t credit your “veteran” status when posting, what I am saying is there’s no need to be dejective. A simple respectful message about how you know what you’re talking about would have sufficed. Instead, you made it into an entire ordeal.

@lagunal

lol, I wouldn’t say that face up to an Indian if I were you! But yes, Stanford is a reach for everyone. But unless you have absolutely horrid circumstances (not OP’s) then it’s not really a waste of money for anyone.

And could we all just stop with the thing b/w crusader and Senior? This thread is about (as much as I hate to do it…) chancing OP, not arguing about status of the people here.
