Ut doesnt even care for GPA supposedly, and I don’t see them turning down someone with a 36, as they care for test scores for OOS more than anything else.

No, it’s not true.

this was pretty helpful… i guess it basically just boils down to whether they will overlook my class rank for my ACT, right?

also, i saw my school profile today and it lists the average ACT scores for each quintile. second quintile is 31, third quintile is 30, and fourth quintile is 29… will that show UT austin that there’s very little difference between students in the middle majority of my school?

basically i just really hope they’re impressed by my ACT and essays

If you read the links I provided…
They will look at your Reading and Math scores and weight them accordingly (Communication formula is the same as COLA, reading weights more than Math). Science is not even considered.

If you are in fourth quintile, and you rank is, let’s say, 70/100, for example, the formula would use 30% or 0.3 for calculations.

It means that your essays and EC must be very good to get extra points. And your best /related to major EC is you blog.

Formula for COLA/Communication/ Education/ Social work/ Fine Arts. (HSR - high school rank)

The Liberal Arts Group – ACT Model
.125 + (ACT EngWrt * .046) + (ACT M * .046) + ( HSR * .007)

The Liberal Arts Group – SAT Model
‐.285 + (SAT W * .002) + (SAT M * .001) + (HSR * .009) + (SAT CR * .001)

using the ACT formula i got a 3.16317. i then used it based on average stats posted on the UT website and got that the average UT student would have a 2.7066… i checked my math twice for each calculation, am i missing something or am i not as screwed as it seems?

According to statistical handbook freshmen GPA is 2.82. Average for all years 3.14.

It’s not unusual for students in more difficult majors like engineering to get on probation.

And it’s not just UT, all universities have grade distribution, and in BIG PUBLIC universities it’s like 10% of the class get A, 10% A-, 50% C and below (it’s just an example, not exactly like this all the time, of course).

According to UT Freshmen Honor society webpage only about 15% of freshmen have GPA 3.5 and up.

YOU ARE OK, I already told you. :)

Sorry, I checked 2012 when i said 2.82. For 2013 freshmen GPA is 2.76, well…
