I am currently a second semester sophomore in high school.
Gender: F
Ethnicity: Asian (India Subcontinent)
Location: Cupertino, CA
GPA: 3.0 UW Freshman year 2.3 UW first semester sophomore year.
SATs/ACTs: I haven't taken any yet, but am taking bootcamps over the summer and got a high score on the PSAT and am aiming high for the SATs.
Courses: Freshman year: Spanish 2, Choir, Algebra 2, Biology, Lit, PE
Sophomore year: Spanish 3, Math Analysis, Audition Choir, Chemistry Honors (dropped second semester), World History, World Literature.
ECs: Member of Key club, DECA, Challenge Club, Psychology Club, Bollywood Club. On the JV Gymnastics team for the past 2 years. JV field hockey. I play the tabla and sing indian classical music (I have been learning for 8 years and have certifications at music schools to prove it), play the guitar and drums and also teach over summers and breaks.
Let me start off by saying I am aware my GPA is weak, and reading these posts on CC, I am aware I am NO WHERE close to all these other competitive people. However, the reason my first semester GPA is so low is that my chem h teacher was actually a Biology teacher and knows nothing about chemistry.. I struggled a lot in that class due to having to learn everything outside of the class. That resulted in grade drops in all my other classes as well, cause I was just focusing on bringing chemistry up. I then dropped it second semester and right now have a 3.8 currently.
Next year I am planning on taking: AP Calc AB, Physics Honors, American Lit Honors, US History, Spanish4Honors or International Business or Leadership (still deciding, am torn between the three, suggestions?), and Audition Choir.
My question is, if I continue to get high GPAs for the rest of sophomore year, 11th, and 12th grade, do you think I would still have a chance at an elite college? (high UCs type thing: UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCSD, or like CalPoly, CalTech, Purdue, Layola, etc etc)
What do you suggest I do at this point to maximize my chances and open more doors for me to get into a good college?
Where do I still have a chance so I can be realistic with myself?
Any advice would be useful and greatly appreciated, thank you!
