Chance Me?

Hi everyone,
I've been looking at CC posts for a while and I decided to try getting chanced myself. I was wondering if you could tell me my chance of getting into UPenn? Penn is my dream school and I want to apply ED for the Huntsman Program (double major in Econ and IR). So, here are my stats.

Objective:
SAT I superscore (breakdown M/CR/W/Essay): 2170 (700/730/740/10) One sitting, will try again in the fall
SAT II (subject, score): haven't taken them yet- will do Math II and French
Unweighted/Weighted GPA: 3.53 unweighted, 3.74 weighted
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn't rank
AP/IB (place score in parentheses): US History (will come out soon, confident it's a 5), will do AP Eng next year
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel, etc.):
Common Awards (AP Scholar, honor roll, NM things, etc.): honor roll, NHS, a bunch of other stuff concerning comm. service, good citizenship, and extracurricular honors

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (name, grade levels, leadership, description): DECA (9-12, president, business competition) Interact (10-12, General Project Manager, District Interact Rep, comm. service club) Yearbook (9-12, editor-in-chief) Student Council (11-12, Class Rep & Vice Pres.)

U.S. State/Territory or Country: PA
School Type: Independent
Ethnicity: African American
Gender: Male
Income Bracket Range: High
Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athelete, development):URM

Seeing all of this, could you also suggest any other schools that I should look at? Thanks!

I forgot to add that I speak French and Spanish

Your GPA is way too low. I have a friend with a 2320, 4.0/4.8, large stock portfolio, makes $30,000 a year through stocks, ranked one in a class of 430, and that created his own physics/rocket launching company who was waitlisted for Econ.

There are soo many similar stories with the ivies. 0.0002% chance, at best.

If it’s your top choice, still apply regardless of GPA. Be sure you can show an upward trend though. Be confident throughout the process and don’t worry about the odds. The odds are low for every student that applies since, statistically speaking 85%-90% of applicants get rejected every year. You have little to lose and everything to gain. And definitely apply ED.

As far as other schools, that’s tough with only stats and no knowledge of your preferences. I will suggest a few top notch schools worthy of consideration…in no particular order.

 1. Dartmouth - another Ivy League school whose application numbers are on the decline so their acceptance numbers are going up. I don’t know if they’ll have another year of that but worth a try.
 2. Johns Hopkins - Really good school, fun city and your stats are in the zone.
 3. Univ of VA - a top public university, large school like Penn, lower cost of living area. Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, mountains, Hampton University (girls, girls girls). It’s a fun state.
 4. Hampton University/Howard University/Morehouse - you are well in the zone for a completely free ride (room, board plus a stipend) to attend. They will pay you to attend school and train you to take your place as a leader - can’t be beat.

Thanks
