AP's: Art History (5), next year taking World History, Chemistry, Physics B and C EM or mech, Calc BC, Chinese, maybe a few others

Rank: School doesn't rank

Course load: The maximum number of honors/AP's it's possible to take, full schedule, etc. basically my next two years are going to suck

Your GPA is impressive. Make sure that you get a high SAT score (2300+ preferably). It’s never too late to start working on your essays. Trust me, the more time you have to work with them, the less stress you will have come senior year. (Just make sure that you attempt the prompts which never change, such as “Why College X?”). Just start brainstorming and compile a list of essay ideas and attempt some of them. For these colleges, a 7/10 essay is not enough. Your essays need to be stellar, unique, and memorable. Go read some essays that worked for ivies online for inspiration/ideas, and there are many websites and threads online which are dedicated to free essay help.

The fact that you are an overrepresented minority does not work in your favor however. You need to stand out (test scores and GPA is not enough…many other students applying to the same colleges as you will have similar stats. The essay is a great way to stand out (as most colleges now don’t offer interviews). Your EC’s are average. Try to find something that you love and have a passion for and makes you unique and pursue that.)

Main point: Your GPA and SAT’s should be great but for admission into top tier schools like yours where admission is arbitrary and there are many students who are like you who apply, you need to stand out form the pack and be truly unique. Don’t worry, you still have 2 years left.

Keep trying your best and working hard. If you put your mind and 100% effort to it you can go anywhere.

Good luck my friend.

Hello: I agree with @driftadriva. Your GPA and PSAT look great. AIME qualifier in Grade 10 is mighty impressive.

You need to find some other way to stand out from the rest of the Asians applying. What you’ve written above is not enough. Isn’t there something interesting about yourself that you can expand upon? A hobby, interest, sport or something else that is different?

@sgopal2 mid-tier research internship this summer, pretty independent work… might submit to Intel/Siemens and the like, I think semifinalist is a long shot but worth a try. I don’t believe that another Asian who can play piano will impress, so I’m probably not going to play off the music card.
In the end I suspect I will only really have science-related ec’s to show off, my speedcubing is going nowhere XD

@Pluvialis‌ : right, downplay the piano and speedcubing. Anything ‘typical asian’ try to keep out of your application. Up-play the research work, as this is good. Find something else interesting to write about yourself.
