Subjective: student senate president, junior representative, sophomore representative, and member all four years; school newspaper editor-in-chief, junior editor during junior year, and staff member all four years; Latin Club co-president, board member sophomore and junior years, and member all four years; NHS member junior-senior year and board member/tutoring coordinator senior year; creator of freshman mentoring program; church volunteer; tutor for numerous students during junior-senior year; computer programming team member sophomore-senior years; conducted collegiate-level research at Western Michigan University's eningeering department junior-senior years, work at daycare and local country club junior-senior years.
•Essays: told by numerous people/editors that essays are very good and, not to sound boastful, but I am very confident in the strength of my essays.
•Teacher Recs: Very strong, two teachers I have known for all four years of high school and they are both faculty advisors of two groups of which I am the president.
•Counselor Rec: I assume very good, we have had a very good relationship and she compliments me for my academic and extracurricular achievements regularly.
•Hook (if any): math and science emphasis on my application because of collegiate research and computer science involvement (especially as a female planning on going into engineering.) I have also been told that being a female with an intended major as aerospace engineering helps applications.

Location/Person:
•State or Country: Michigan, USA
•School Type: public (I attend half day at public school and half day at math and science magnet school.)
•Ethnicity: white
•Gender: female
•major strength/weakness: I think my biggest strength is extracurriculars/leadership, I have a solid ACT score, and teacher recommendations are great. Weakness would be GPA.
•why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: *I have just recently applied Early Action and will find out about acceptance in December 2014.
•going to attend?
Other Factors: Notre Dame really likes students from my math and science magnet school, which the admissions rep has told me before, so this also helps my application.
Intended Major: aerospace engineering

Howdy!

It is always difficult to “rate” a student for admission, because the committee becomes increasingly swamped with applications each and every year. With so many high-preforming students applying, it’s only natural that many gifted students end up getting rejected; there simply isn’t enough room.

However, I would say that you stand a fair chance based on numbers alone. Your ACT is within the normal range for ND students, and you have solid involvement in APs and extracurriculars. As a woman hoping to get into engineering, you’ll also receive added favor. We need more women in the sciences here at ND, and the University will take your academic plans into consideration. Your early experience with research may also make your application stand out. ND loves when students express an interest in research, and not many young people have the chance to engage in meaningful research until (at best) their second year of college. Because you’ve already sought out such opportunities, I’m sure the committee will be impressed. As for your GPA, don’t worry – you’re right where you should be.

If you have any questions throughout this process, please don’t hesitate to message me. I went through the application process not too long ago myself, and I took every chance I could to ask then-current students for help. I’d suggest you do the same…it really helps.

Good luck!
