Chance Me?

So, I will be applying regular decision. I am looking to go into accounting. Here are my stats:

31 ACT
3.1/3.74 GPA (UW/W)
All honors and AP classes from top 15 Illinois public HS
300+ Hours community service
Average Recs and well-written essay
4 years of track and multiple jobs
High income bracket and Caucasian
Male

I think my ACT is good, but I'm a little worried about GPA! What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Demonstrated interest is important to Syracuse. DD is dual at Whitman/Newhouse and absolutely loves it. Upward trending grades provide a boost. Additionally strong first quarter/semester grades senior year are important. If Cuse is clearly your first choice, I would suggest looking into EDII. Good luck.

@funfatdaddy‌ Unfortunately, my grades have a downward trend. What do you think?

Hopefully you are having a strong senior year. you can still apply to Syracuse, but if your senior year grades are also slipping I would recommend looking at some other options as well. You may want to look at state schools with guaranteed admissions. Your ACT score would help you there. Good luck.

@funfatdaddy‌ Okay thanks. My grades right now are a lot better than last years. I think I’ll apply and see what happens. Maybe I’ll take a flight out there to see the campus, which would help me in the interest department. Any other opinions?

@JackRedBlueGreen…If your senior year grades improved and show course rigor, I would suggest having your high school counselor send your quarterly and/or mid year grades to all your schools. If you are challenging yourself and making good grades senior year that would offer you a nice lift. Making strong senior year grades should be your number 1 priority!! Good luck to you.

@funfatdaddy‌ Yea I should have done that with all my early action schools…Thank you for the suggestion! You have been a lot of help!

@JackRedBlue Green…You’re welcome. Colleges accept, reject, and defer applications not people. The Unabomber was an Ivy grad. Colleges really do not have the time to thoroughly interview applicants like an employer would and companies can and do make hiring mistakes. One needs to provide as much positive information as possible to colleges while not going overboard. If you have strong senior year grades, I would suggest sending them right away even if your grades cover only one quarter. Any increase in standardized test scores or major awards won also should be submitted. DD sent her 1st Q grades to Cuse as they were very strong in the most rigorous course load. She was admitted ED to her first choice program with merit. She is thrilled to be at Cuse. DS applied to his first choice school as SAT optional. He scored very well on his SATs later in his senior year and submitted to all his schools. He was accepted to his first choice and was later awarded significant merit.
SU is a terrific school and offers a lot of great opportunities. Good luck with your college search.
