Hello, everyone!
I’m applying to US colleges this year. Please chance me.
In class 9, I got 76% in the first term but then 80% in the second term. After that my grades have been increasing every year. 86% in class 10 rehearsals and 94% in ICSE. However, I got 74% in my class 11 half yearlies and I feel sick during my annuals so that didn’t work out very well. But, I’m doing well in my classes now and my marks are coming out well. My act score is 32 and I’m taking the subject tests in October. I’ve taken the math 2 practice test and got 740 without preparing so ill probably do well over there.
I’m planning on taking up electrical engineering. I have 2 internships - one from last year in summers and the other which I completed this year.(getting a brilliant LOR) Both are related to electrical engineering. I’m the treasurer of readers club in my school. I’ve done many activities as treasurer like handling the finances, organising and being the spell master for spell our annual spell bee, organising a film festival. I am the director of my school’s science club. I organised a science quiz (with other board members’ help) and a science fair. I’m organising a seminar with interesting science facts and theories to interest middle school students in my school.
Apart from this, I’ve been playing chess since class 6. I have other school activities like cricket, hockey, athletics, NCC (Air wing), debating and elocution . I’ve been doing all these activities since class 7-8. I have some great merits in dramatics and film making with some interschool awards. One of my films is being shown in a national film festival and is also going for an international competition. I was also on my MUN committee board and have won awards at other MUNs. I had also gone to represent my school in an interschool debate competition in another state. I have a diploma in kayaking, racing and rescuing. And I’ve been on my school spelling team and been for some city spelling bees. I’ve also acted in interschool drama competitions and won awards. I was also taking IIT coaching from an institution with 12 hours per week of classes so it’s kinda difficult to keep up. I’ve been managing that also. (Don’t know if this adds weight)
I’m just looking for some advice on what kind of colleges should I try for. I was thinking about EDing at northwestern university. Please suggest whatever you all feel.

Almost everyone who suffers from the 11th grade grade deflation has the same excuse. It is going to hurt you real bad regardless of what your class rank is because for every single person who gets 70% in their 11th grade exams, there are at least 3 people scoring 90% There is no dearth of competition. Your ICSE score is good, though.

A 32 ACT is a bit on the lower side for Northwestern (I think). Try taking it again for RD if possible. Also, if you are from a STEM related field from India, it might hurt you (0.0000000001%) to not get 750+ on your subject tests, especially the ones in STEM.

Your ECs, are well, okay.
-
IIT coaching won’t count for anything. LOL, what world are you living in?
Thanks for your reply!
- give your CGPA including 9th / 10th / 11th on a 10-scale (you are rambling too much on that part)
- clarify which curriculum
- how much tuit you are willing to pay (forget room/board)
then maybe i can give some pointers
Are you a U.S. citizen (assuming no, but worth asking)? What is your financial situation?
The “wall of text” is probably putting responders off. Really hard to pick out key info…
I’m an Indian, studying in one of the top schools in this nation with ICSE/ISC curriculum. I don’t need financial aid.
Additional information :
I’m a film maker. 2 of my films have been shortlisted for an international film festival and 1 has been shortlisted for a national film festival. One scientific film was shown in an institute of technology.
I’ve completed 2 internships related to research and engineering.
