I think all my stats are within range of the typical accepted person. I think My extracurriculars are pretty good and I am positive that my essay and recommendations are all pretty good. Based off of the information here, how good are my chances?
Id be surprised if you got in but not shocked. Your GPA is fairly low and you SAT doesn’t compensate. You did take a lot of APs and have good ECs though. Best of luck
Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1851776-chance-me-ucb-ucla-ucsd-will-chance-back.html#latest
My weighted GPA is a 4.2 if that means anything.
I think chances of getting in vary depending on the school to which you apply at Northeastern. Based on accepted student’s stats at my son’s school in MA as recorded by the guidance department on Naviance, you exceed the average accepted student profile. So, if you were applying to arts and sciences you have a good shot, but if you are applying to engineering it would depend on the other applicants, same with bouve health or business school. Unfortunately my son’s school doesn’t break down stats by school. Good luck!! My oldest son just finished second year of classes for engineering and is on his second co-op and loves it.
The official line from Northeastern is that acceptance rates are the same across colleges, approximately. But they don’t release stats so it’s impossible to actually know. Given that it’s relatively easy to change majors after being accepted, I think they’re trying to get people to apply where they actually want to go, not where they think it will be easiest to get in. In general, your best shot is where you’re the best fit. I wouldn’t worry about trying to dissect the admissions rates of each college.
The exception is what I think of as the “specialty” programs, like physical therapy and pharmacy, which are combined bachelor/doctorate programs.
What on earth are you talking about ^^^ and why are you sprinkling your sunshine on a topic you know absolutely nothing about?
I’m not a fan of chance me threads but I’ll respond to this one because it looks rather familiar. @swimmerD , my son was accepted EA to NEU with stats like yours and inferior ECs. He was a year-round competitive swimmer and had a job. That’s pretty much it. To be honest, I’m not sure ECs matter as much as people think they do except as they help shape an essay. Just an opinion. Anyway, he is a sophomore at NEU now and is thriving. When he applied, his communication with the regional admissions rep made his genuine interest in NEU as a top pick school very clear. If your rep comes to your school, be sure to be at that meeting. Linger afterwards to ask more questions. Follow up with an email. Demonstrate your interest. You are absolutely in the range but as you already pointed out, you are in the typical range. What can separate you from others in that range is interest. Good luck!
OK the post that I was referring to in my first sentence above was deleted which makes what I wrote in that sentence make absolutely no sense. I am NOT questioning what nanotechnology wrote in post #4 at all which I’m sure is accurate. There was another post which is now gone that was just plain mean spirited and ignorant that I was challenging.
^^^I saw the post before it was deleted, it was nasty. Glad the mods deleted it.
@halflokum I actually looking into the user who posted and quickly found that it was a fake / account made specifically to make comments like that. I reported it and it looks like it’s already been taken care of
@halflokum How do you recommend I contact them? I live out of state so it is very unlikely that there would be a representative in my area. I don’t want to be an annoyance but I do want to demonstrate interest. Would a well written email be the best? Or maybe a call to their admissions office?
@swimmerD , every state and every region with larger states has an assigned admissions rep. You can look yours up right here: http://www.northeastern.edu/admissions/contact-us/admissions-staff/ Track yours down and reach out. Find out if by any chance they are going to be at your school or if they are holding some sort of admissions event in your area and GO!
We too were out of state. Pretty much as far away from Boston as you can get except some parts of California and all of Alaska and Hawaii. A Northeastern admissions rep came to my son’s school more than once and there were admissions events in our area as well. We also visited campus his junior year so that was the beginning of the love affair.
Glad you were on it @PengsPhils and thanks for confirming that I was not nuts @TomSrOfBoston. Stupid comments like that by people with either malicious intentions, ignorance or a false sense of their importance are partly why I hate “chance me” threads. They often bring people like that out from under the rocks. The other reason however is of course that the answer always is, if you apply, you have a chance and if you don’t you don’t. It’s hard to get much more scientific than that without being an admissions rep who understands the make up of the entire applicant pool and having total access to an applicant’s file including reading the essays and recommendations, knowing all of the particular’s about the applicant’s school profile etc. Stats never tell the entire picture and as I said, I’m a bit dubious about a laundry list of ECs mattering all that much. (Just an opinion as already stated so if you think otherwise, that’s cool too.)
@swimmerD, it just dawned on me that the RD deadline has passed which may mean there are likely fewer area events now since they would be working on the applications. However, you can still reach out to your rep. I “think” that person will be the first person to screen your application. Write to them to express your interest. Be specific. It can’t hurt.
