Chance Me

During my first two years of high school I didn’t work as hard as I should have but I have since got my act together and I have had two semesters with a 4.0 gpa. But since it’s to late I’m not able to go to any of my top choice schools and have to go to a local public university. There’s nothing wrong with the university except I feel it doesn’t have a strong pre-med program or strong academics that will prepare me for the rigors of Medical School. So my question is, what schools should I apply to, when should I apply to maximize my chances of admission, and what grades and class should I take in college.

H.S Stats
2.7 G.P.A
31 ACT
4/5 ECs

there is the subforum for transfers…if you want to be chanced for college admissions go to the other subforum

Thank you

@StrawberryIceTea @Arsenal18’s question is about schools to transfer to, so op is in the right forum.
@Arsenal18 what area are you looking at? There are plenty of great pre-med schools across the country.

I’m looking to major in biology

What schools are your considering? Some schools like the California Cal States and UC’s do not consider anything from HS except AP/IB or DE courses but you do have to transfer as Junior (60 semester/90 quarter). Lower division transfers for many schools will consider your HS GPA and test scores.

I’m look to transfer into a tier 1 school.

So hypothetically what would my chances be to transfer into any of theses schools with theses stats

H.S Stats
2.7 G.P.A
31 ACT
4/5 ECs

Intended Major: Biology
Junior transfer
College
3.9 G.P.A
ECs 4/5
Reason to transfer: 5/5

List of Colleges
Cornell
UChicago
Duke
UWash
UNC-Chapel Hill
UPenn
Michigan University- Ann Arbor
George Washington
University of California-San Diego
NYU
Wake Forest
Stanford
Johns Hopkins
Northwestern

Yes well…except maybe for stanford.

But getting a 3.9+ in college after two years is no joke.

So, you’re saying if I can get a 3.9-4.0 gpa for 2 years. Ill have a shot at getting into theses schools. I’ll take those chances. Thanks

But how much weight will my high school gpa have

@Arsenal18 It is not emphasized as much as college grades but they are still considered. For top colleges, if you want to transfer in, the general rule is that if you were competitive for freshman admission, you’re competitive as a transfer. I’ll be honest with you that many of the schools on your list are highly competitive (especially for transfer admission). Definitely apply, because you never know what happens, but for schools like Duke, Penn, Stanford, Northwestern, UChicago, UMich, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, etc., transfer admissions are very very very competitive.

ok thanks for the advice @Burdened. I guess all I can do is be the best college student i can be. I just wish that I could increase my chances for admissions.

what school you go to now, op?

Xavier University

Sorry but I will not be go to Xavier as I had thought. Now I know that I will 100% be attending a local public university where I will be majoring in Biology. Since the last time I commented I looked at other schools that I would like to transfer into since the school I’ll be attending has no major hospital near it or research opportunities. I will like to be chanced and if possible given tips on how to improve my chances of admission as a sophomore transfer. I would also would like suggestions of schools that are similar to these listed below.

Thank you for your responses in advance

For your stated goals, some of the schools on this online list might be good for you: “The Experts’ Choice: Colleges with Great Pre-Med Programs.” Some of the colleges are less selective than others, which may be to your advantage.
