-Old SAT
Math=780
CR=750
Writing=680
-AP Scholar Award with Honors
-3 season athlete

-healthy amount of extracurriculars, clubs etc.
-met personally with head admissions officer
-class rank approx top 20% (my current graduating class has the highest average GPA out of dozens of past classes)

You have around 80% to 90% chance of getting in. UCSD has 35% acceptance rate but your stats are good enough f for schools that are much harder to get into.

Note to anyone else: I am also applying to the other UC Schools im curious what people think my chances are at Berkeley and UCLA. Note: I have done visits at both

Note: I am applying for economics which is a capped major

You will probably get admitted to UCSD, but since your major is capped, you may be admitted into your alternate major or an undeclared major.

What is your unweighted GPA and did you try calculating out your UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

UC’s will only give OOS applicants extra honors points in the UC GPA calculation for AP/IB and DE courses, so you HS weighted is not considered.

You have competitive test scores, but how was your HS course rigor?

This is based on California Freshman but can give you ballpark idea of your chances. UC’s are very GPA focused so GPA will be a large factor in getting into a capped major.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:

UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 11%
UCSB: 13%
UCI: 16%
UCSC: 47%
UCR: 64%
UCM: 80%

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:

UCB: 12%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 39%
UCSB: 49%
UCD: 52%
UCI: 57%
UCSC: 83%
UCR: 90%
UCM: 92%

Also you need consider affordability for all the UC’s since they do not offer need based financial aid for OOS students other than what you are eligible through Federal funds: Pell Grants, Stafford Loans etc…

UC’s give little merit aid also and the amounts make little difference in the cost of attendance for $60K/year.

I do not have a problems with financing college. My UC GPA is something around a 3.6 which is my biggest concern. My course load is extremely rigorous and so is the school in general.

If you check the decision threads for the last few years, you will see High GPA usually wins out over High Tests scores, so I would say that UCSD would a High Match- Low Reach if your GPA is 3.6. You will be evaluated in the context of your school, so going to a competitive school will be considered.

Being OOS and have the money to fund your education is helpful, but UC’s are need blind so decisions are based not on your ability to pay, but they do accept OOS students hoping they are able to pay.

Hopefully you cast a wide net and will have several good options in the end.

Good Luck.

I certainly think you have a good chance of getting into UCSD. Though your GPA is slightly concerning considering that you have a 3.6 Weighted, I think the fact that your courses are rigorous, you attend a competitive school, and your EC’s and SAT appear to be pretty good all add up to a solid chance for acceptance.

That said, both Berkeley and UCLA might be reaches, but UCSD is a great school and you should focus on schools at that level.

If you or @crunge17 could provide me advice on one of my many threads (I kind of went crazy with that…) I would really appreciate it! :slight_smile:

update: rejected

I’m so sorry that you got rejected. I hope you will have other good options to choose from in April. I appreciate you updated and let us know the result.

I wish you the best.

Thank you! Considering the backlash UCs received from the amount of OOS students they accepted last year I can only assume they had an initiative to cut back. Pending responses from Berkeley, Michigan, and Vanderbilt plus being waitlisted at Boston College at this point I will likely be attending the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in the engineering college
