also can i get chanced for UMTC and their honors college? chemE major

anyone^^^

Your ec’s are all academic related. What are your nonacademic ec’s? What are your hobbies? What do you do for fun? (aside from swimming) What makes you unique or how do you think your experience would be an asset to any of the schools you are considering? What have to done to explore the area of chemical engineering to determine that as your future major? These are things you want to think about when you are trying to give an overall picture of yourself especially in your essays.

is it bad to not have non academic ec’s?
i am in CSF and i used to be in JV swim
i honestly like math and chem but also how chemE and MSE is used in everything and how stuff is created
i wanted to be premed, but now i got interested on engr. so im not sure anymore

I don’t know what CSF is. Colleges have lots of organizations and clubs. They want students that are smart but also wellrounded students. Students that will be involved in the college campus community not just sit in the library and study. They expect that you will take advantage of all the opportunities made available to you.

Your application should reflect that you made the most of your high school experience by taking advantage of all the opportunities your high school offered to its students.

These days good grades and test scores will get your application reviewed but realize that there are going to be many applicants that are academically strong like you. What is going to make a student standout from the crowd are their other accomplishments especially at very competitive schools. The number of academically qualified students exceeds the number of students a college can admit.

My concern would be that your list comprises mostly of reach schools. You need to add more schools which are good matches.

Caifornia Scholarship Federation- basically a service club

Ok. I would still have the same concerns as post #25.

ye, i dont have much ECs- some tutoring and Scioly stuff
anyways,
my current list-
Alabama
UMinn
Berkeley
UCLA
UCSD
UCSB
UCI
UCD
UCR
CPSLO
CPP

is this fine?
also i dont have any privates which i feel like i need more…

UM-TC has great ChemE program and it should be a match to high match for you from OOS. Their CoA for OOS students is among the lowest.

thanks

If you live in CA definitely apply to all the UC’s. There are a lot of engineering schools to consider. It is a matter of cost and location in determining which schools that might interest you. For example if you want to settle in Texas then I would look into schools in that state since local companies would recruit there. (just an example)

Would you be interested in University of Michigan? They have a very big engineering school.
Even if you decide to change your major you still would have many options at this school.

im not really interested in UMich but its pretty good. Do u guys know any good Texas schools- especially for premed?

Are you Chemical Engineering and premed? That will be a challenge as far as maintaining a very high gpa.

UMich is too competitive for you anyway. I know in state students with 3.8 GPA and 33 ACT got rejected.

kk
for the chemE thing.
i will apply as chemE for a few shcools like UCSB and also take a few premed required courses.
if i am good at it and still like medicine, i will probably switch over to easier major
the reason im applyijg chemE initilaly is as a backup plan

also can someone chance for Santa Clara U and Loyola Marymount U and for both their scholarships

Check the schools on your list that you are likely not applying to specific major but just the school with more general focus.

Run the net price calculators on both SCU and LMU and it should give you some estimates of possible merit aid (scholarships) if your stats meet the requirements. SCU is not know for great FA/Merit.

Also everyone, I just got back my SAT score and ACT score !!! (actually couple days ago)
On August SAT- 1490 (800 math, 690 English)
On September ACT- 32 (34,35,27,31)
Which is better to submit- 32 ACT or 1490 SAT? And how will this affect my chances at some of these schools?
