im thinking about going into engineering and i head that uc has a good program for that. i would apply to U of M CoE but if i decide not to do engineering you have to apply for transfer, and at uc berkeley i don’t THINK you have to do that.
however, i am out of state, so standards are higher probably, so im not optimistic
the idea is to be in the top 15-20% in my class at least because if i’m lower i get stressed out and i don’t handle stress well. anyways here are my stats:
3.93 UW, 4.45 weighted, 1570 SAT, 35 ACT
APs: bio, chem, physics c mech and em, calculus, english language, music theory, comp sci A, world history
senior APs: stats, literature
ECs: HOSA but i’m not great at it, founding member and leadership in piano club, students without borders, participant in university youth bands (MYSO, DYSO) on flute
also taking constructive criticism, thanks in advance
yeah so as soon as i posted it i saw the official chance thread. im gonna try to delete this post. sorry guys
so i looked it up and apparently you can’t delete posts. i could report it to get it deleted but i dont want to bother the mods. sorry for the spam
Chances are that the mod will move your thread to here anyways…
Which major are you interested in?
Since you have a 3.93 uw chances are you only have 2 Bs, maybe 3. What were they in and what grade?
I actually have 1 B+ from freshman year in US history. the A-'s are what drags it down, since i’m pretty sure they do subscores. I’m not sure what major, but probably something in STEM? but the engineering school sounds kind of hard to get into.
3.93 as an OOS Engineering student would be a tough admit.
Also, the UCs are full fees to non-residents-$65k per year, would your parents pay a quarter of a million dollars for an engineering degree? No financial aid to nonresidents.
The UCs drop all the + and - when they calculate GPA, plus they don’t look at your freshman grades.
If you have no other Bs then your UC uw GPA is 4.0 and your weighted capped will be in the 4.3-ish range. Combined with your SAT score you should be in good shape for Berkeley, even for CoE. However CoE is full of folks with your grades and scores and I know a few kids with perfect SAT and ACT scores who didn’t get into Berkeley and even my niece’s friend who couldn’t get into EECS with 1580 and 4.84 GPA (supposedly). So always have backups and other choices of schools available.
right so if they drop the + and - and don’t use freshman grades then I have a 4.0. i took like hella ap classes (like last year i took 7 if you count AP Physics C as two) plus band, so like im porbably in good shape gpa wise, but like im not actually applying lol.
it’s too … spensive… plus there’s a whole other application. gross. thanks for yalls tips tho
If you had enough AP credits you could possibly graduate in 3 years which would save you $65K. But that savings would hold true for most schools as well.
UCs do have their own application, but it does make things easier for instate students since all the UCs are covered under the same application and one set of essays covers all the UCs. So if you were thinking of UCLA also, well that would be 2in 1. The time consuming part of an app is always the essays, and almost all the top schools for Common App will ask their own individual essay questions.
