Chance me!

I’m EDing Cornell sociology. I have 32 ACT composited score, and a 34 super scored, 3.8 unweighted GPA, and have done plenty of ECs. And I found a charity foundation in Africa. What’s my chance? By the way, I have a classmate who’s also EDing Cornell but computer science, he has crazy-high 1580 SAT, 3.9 unweighted GPA, has some ECs. I’m not confident if Cornell only picks one of us.

What is your SAT and class rank? Cornell is a reach for everybody, but your GPA is in range. Using the ACT to SAT conversion, you are top 25% or so for test scores. Don’t compare yourself to the CS kid… STEM majors are harder to get into at many schools. You very well might make it in and he won’t. The acceptance rate posted is for the whole freshman class, all majors.

If this is your first choice, consider applying ED.

I didn’t take SAT, it is not really my thing, and other school do not rank students so… Thank you for your advice!!

So @Groundwork2022 said “If this is your first choice, consider applying ED”, so I guess you are implying that there is a benefit in terms of admission chances by applying early? I am not sure if I should apply early or not, unless ED does increase my chances. Could you explain if so, how?

Well, if you Google “Connell University Common Data Set”, you will see that according to the most recent information available (2016), Cornell admitted 27% of the students who applied ED. That is considerably higher than the percentage of those admitted RD. A lot of those will be recruited athletes or legacies, but for many, it simply tells Cornell that they are the students first choice.
