Chance me

So I am applying early decision to Boston College. I have a 4.38 GPA and a 1320 (660/660) SAT score (I’m not a good standardized test taker). I want to study English, History, or Philosophy, but I am not really sure yet. I have shadowed at Boston College and I have done the campus tour, and it is unequivocally my first choice. My extracurriculars and awards are…

  • varsity cross country captain (very large and successful team)
  • varsity indoor track
  • varsity outdoor track
  • chief editor of 2 school publications
  • national honors society
  • german honors society
  • art honors society
  • student ambassador
  • student dialogue facilitator
  • school poetry slam ambassador
  • honor roll all through high school
  • all honors courses but 2 throughout high school
  • 4th place state level writing competition
  • 1st place local competition
  • biology club founding member
  • 2 APs junior year (Psych: 5, Lang: 4)
  • 3 APs senior year (Human Geo, Lit, Gov)

Your grades are roughly above average, but the SAT is a bit below the curve. That puts you at about average. The acceptance rate is just under 30%, which is a high reach. Keep a list of some good target and safety schools.

The 26.8 percent acceptance rate includes a lot of athletes, 10 percent international and other preference categories. It’s always a smaller range than students are led to believe.

You have an excellent profile and tremendous athletics and ecs. Congrats.

No one knows for sure but I would consider a “yes” to be a big win. You’re definately competitive.

I would also apply to Holy Cross, Fordham and Villanova. Add Providence perhaps as a safety type to give you a good range.
