Chance me!

Hello I am a senior in hs who applied early action for PSU around October 20th. I have a 1270 SAT and a 4.2 GPA. I go to a highly competitive hs that is nationally ranked and #2 in the state of Texas. I am an out of state resident and have taken a total of 9 AP classes including 3 senior year the rest being honors. I have been in the top concert and marching band for 4 years leadership team for 2/4 and am principle flute of the band. I have also been in my nationally awarded yearbook staff for 3 years and have been coverage editor for the past 2. I am in NHS and am involved with multiple clubs. Chances and any idea of when I should hear back? I am applying for the business school at University park.

Why pay triple the tuition? You have great schools in Texas at a fraction of the cost.

I agree. UT Austin is ranked so much higher than Smeal. There’s no reason to pay the premium out of state charge for Penn State when you have something more than comparable in your own backyard…unless there’s a major at PSU that you can’t find in state. Save the debt and consider Smeal for graduate school if you really want to come this far up north. Just my two cents, but I would do whatever you can to minimize undergrad debt.

To specifically answer your question, you have good stats for PSU main, but the SAT may put you borderline for the business school. Ideally you want to be above the 75th percentile if applying direct to Smeal. You might be better off applying DUS/undecided and attempt to work through the entrance-to-major requirements for the business school from there. There’s little to no advantage to starting in DUS versus starting as a business pre-major.

If money isn’t a factor, and your parents can afford to do so, consider checking off the optional summer start.
