Chance Me!

ok, this is my dream school. i want to pursue a career in science/math, and i feel i can do reallly well here. as for admission, thats another story:

4.5 W gpa, at mid-year, so it will be higher at the end of the year, since ive kept my grades the same; among toughest of course loads, basically, AP USH is the one and only AP class i denied;
5th/148
2100 SAT 730 W, 760 M, 610 CR-- eww, retakin in oct
800 math 2 (retook the 710), 710 bio m, 670 history–eww, but i took an honors course, so…!?
APs…4 in statistics (self study), 5 in bio, and 4/5 in calc ab

Clubs/etc:
will have done 4 yrs of xc/winter-indoor track/spring track, but i suck,
4 yrs of:
DAN club(Do anything nice)
Academic Bowl
Spanish Club (will have some leadership here)
Jump Rope for Heart (Class Leader)
Web Masters Club
Math Club/Team
Stockmarket Club
as of now, member of national honor society, and natinoal span/math honor societies, but i could get some leadership in math/spanish societies
ECs:
CTY- 3 years- science related courses
Summer school - precalc- to move up a level in math
Co-founder of Web Page Development Team- restructuring/redesigning the high school alumni page

Volunteer at a Hospital, which i plan on doing for the summer, unless i get an internship at a lab. If i volunteer throughout high school, ill have about 400 hours.
i work as a member of a ‘big brother’ organization with a religious orientation. ive spent about 6 yrs…spending time with younger kids, as well as teaching them gujurati (the native language)…
possibly an internship, we’ll see in a few weeks
as for other schools, im looking into:
tufts, lehigh, bc, nyu, upenn, columbia(idk my shot there, but w/e), UVA, JHU, Northwestern, UChic…any other possibilities??
i dont really know wat else to say, except that i want to go there more than anyone else who is in the 2008 applicant pool, which leads me to my final ?, wat should i focus my essay on? ive wanted to be a doc for along time, i really like to cook, though im not good, and i enjoy running. should i consider focusing my essay on why i like brown so much? or would that just hint that i have no passions? any advice is appreciated. thanks guys

i go to a moderately competitive public school in NJ. i am indian, and middle income. i know on paper, i dont have all the stellar awards and that whole deal, but...i reeeeally wanna go to brown. i dont have any such hooks...maybe first gen, but i dont think so, since my parents were educated in india, so watever. As for time committment, id have to say the webpage design thing is what im most committed to, regarding school. but, there arent many awards in that so...? anyway, feedback is appreciated

Be calm. You need a great personal essay. That's all.

the thing about brown is that it's realllly selective. and unless you have some hooks, its reallly hard to distinguish yourself from the masses. ivy leagues fill up their classes, from what i know, with ppl who have hooks that are locks. Then, with unbelieveably intelligent people who are specialized in certain academic fields. and finally, with the really smart people who have certain interests and passions. the people who are rejected are the really smart people who either just want to go to an ivy for the sake of an ivy, or can't convey their interests in their essays properly. so, that said, write good essays. but beware, nothing is a lock. seriously, nothing is. which is why its good to apply to 8-10 schools that would feel comfortable going to.

i can't really assess your chances but will say that you are in the academic range for being admitted, but so are 80% of the applicants. good luck.

"i dont really know wat else to say, except that i want to go there more than anyone else who is in the 2008 applicant pool"

that's a little one-sided, don't you think?

maybe and probably, but it just shows how much i want to go there..take it for what you want..
