By the time I apply for colleges I will have at least 200 hours of community service. I’ve helped mostly at my local senior cen

my son is a rising junior at oxy.....your classes and grades make you very competitive and the community service hours will be noticed. Your test scores are low for Oxy....the accepted students for fall '08 had an average SAT of just over 2000, I believe...definitely study and take it again and try the ACT, also. Definitely schedule an interview..your ec's show that you would do well in this setting, I believe it made all the difference with my son's application process.....come with a "resume" that shows your complete picture, use this as a basis for talking about what interests you. Oxy's a great school, good luck to you!

^Come with a resume? What exactly do you mean?

Also thanks kbl. Your post helped a lot!

One of the challenges in the application process is to communicate who you are. The interview allows you the personal opportunity to talk about what is important to you and to explore the fit between you and the college. By handing the interviewer a "resume", i.e. an information sheet that details your activities, interests, awards, extracurriculars, etc. it often directs the conversation to questions about what's on the paper and my son found that it was really just a helpful tool in the process.
