Should I even bother applying?

you look like an interesting applicant. make sure your essays are top notch, and you're probably in.

oh shnap--i meant top 12% in a class of about 800

If you have an ACT of 33, why bother retaking the SAT? And Grinnell doesn't require SAT IIs. Your time would be better spent on some interesting essays and investing more in one of your extra curriculars to show leadership or real commitment.

I suspect being Asian helps-its actually a URM at Grinnell, unlike on in the NE and the West.

You may also want to call the admissions office and talk with them about merit aid. They were quite candid with our son about the level of academic achievement they were looking for when it comes to awarding their very generous scholarships.

I agree you are in the ballpark and sound like an interesting applicant. I also agree you would't need to retake the SAT, but the subject scores are very good, so you might want to send those in.

Would not need to re-take the SAT is what I meant.
