Volunteer Work/Community Service:
Plano Engineering dept. for the entire summer before junior year (2008)
->I learned vital skills such as organization and talking to authoritative
figures. I've taken interviews on the topic of volunteering in Plano and
have received recognition for my volunteering by VIP (Volunteers in
Plano). I've also drastically improved basic business skills of how to
handle people, dealing with appliances in a basic office, etc.
Plano Teen Court: attorney
->The duty of these attornies are to dedicate at least one Monday a
month to appearing in court to either represent a teen defendent or
the State in cases involving minor violations such as alcohol
consumption by minors, fighting in public, speeding, disorderly
conduct, possession of firearms or drug paraphernalia, etc. We, as
attorneys, make it our principle duty to do our very best in dealing
with the violators such that they are able to be better individuals
and, by extension, better the community.
Kid Kapers Summer Camp for three weeks during the summer before junior
year (2008)
->working with the little kids was a lot of fun. It helped me realize that
I'm not just a number waiting to get into a prestigious college but
instead am also someone whose help is valued.
Labor Day Plano Football Invitational: field marshal
->I'm not an athlete but I love helping out at sports tournies because
those athletes are, I think, one of the most amazing people on earth
and plus I love the competitiveness in the air. It's cool coming out of
a comfort zone and just helping out people because they need your
help-athlete or not.
VIP: Volunteers In Plano (active volunteer for Plano Children's Theatre)
->Besides the mentioned volunteering events I've gone to, I am active
in accepting volunteer activites that come out of the blue such as
Youth Sport Exhibitions, walking for organizations, helping out at
festivals, etc.

It's nice to volunteer, and i feel that the volunteering I have done will help
colleges see that look, I'm the caring, compassionate, creative person
you need at your school. Any suggestions on what other volunteering
I could do? And could someone tell me about the National Youth
Leadership Conference? And the People to People Ambassador
Program? I've got invites to both. Are they worth it?

I've been learning classical Indian music from the ripe age of 5 years old
and
I've been learning Bharatnatyam (an Indian dance) from the age of 8 years old

I wish to be a Business Major with a French Minor

Thanks in advance,
G.P.
