Honors/awards

teacher recs- one i except to be extremely good, the other good too
counselor rec- should be amazing- i am very close with her

essay- not done yet but it talks about my bicultural background- i am fluent in another language and have spent a great deal of time in my mothers homeland in europe

what do you think? i want your honest opinions

Impressive candidate. What language do you speak other than English? Also, send in a recording of your oboe playing if it is truly exceptional.

thanks i speak polish and in terms of oboe playing- i do not consider myself exceptional but rather just good for an oboe player considering most people who take up and continue the instrument are strong musicians it seems, i was considering sending in a recording but i was not sure if i should bother if i am not interested in studying music in college...

What repertoire do you have in your fingers? If we're talking Mozart/Strauss concerto or major orchestral excerpts, send a recording. If we're talking oboe method books, don't.

I think I would fall somewhere in the middle, more towards the higher end but I have not had much free time to play due to the application process. I did compete in level 6 nyssma in 10th grade and got a 94, and the previous year (9th) competed in level 5 nyssma and got a 98.
However with the ED apps due in a few days, my time is limited and a recording is unrealistic. Thanks for the advice though!

also: indoor track (10th grade), crew (9th grade)- my boat won 1st place on LI for Girls 8 in 2006

anyone else think i have a decent shot? or not? or maybe?...

I imagine that Dartmouth would rather have a qualified applicant who happens to play an uncommon instrument such as oboe rather than say.violin or flute

^ yay :D I play the tabla

You are a very strong candidate with many distinguishing attributes. You should be in the running.
