OK, there are some tough schools up there, but there's a reason why. I want to try to go to Dartmouth so I can be in the track team. They have the major I want to study and based on the info i gather, they're pretty solid in the Ivy League for track and field. I put Cornell up their since they have all the things i want to study for incase i dont like the one i would be studying. U of Oklahoma is up their because im interested in their atmospheric science program. I love extreme weather and since most of the storm chasers that u see on tv like reed timmer and josh came from O of U, i might as well go for it incase all else fails. Stanford is up their since i feel like it :P

On another note, im really serious about track and field. I am new but it doesnt mean that im not good. I went to CIF on my first year with no experience whatsoever in the hurdles. My goals are big this year, which is to reach state. I am looking to be recruited for track and field in the hurdles and sprinting events. My main colleges for recruitment is UCSD, UCI, UCSB, UCD, Dartmouth, UPenn, and the Cal Poly's.

Your biggest weakness is your SAT score. I would definitely work on that. If you can get it up to 2000+ you should be in for Most of the UC’s, SDSU, and Cal Poly SLO. Maybe consider retaking SAT US or choosing another test. Try for 750~ if you can.

You listed your volunteering, so I thought I should tell you that 100 hours isn’t that much. It won’t hurt you, but it won’t help you either.

You don’t need me to tell you your athletics are amazing. I’m not sure the UC’s are allowed to recruit very much, but if privates like UPenn, Dartmouth, and Stanford recruit you that would really help you.

Being Mexican will help you. Also, I think self studied AP’s do help you. I’m not sure how much, that probably depends on the context of who it is.

Basically:
UC’s and csu’s - good chance, if you get the SAT score up. They’re very numbers based.
Stanford, Cornell, USC, Dartmouth - good chance, very good if you get recruited.

Agreed, everything is fine except your SAT scores, which a few months of prep books or classes should easily improve. It’s worth it.

Go get at least 2000 on your SAT I :)

should i take the sat 1 on october and the sat 2 on november? or can i do both on the same day? thanks for the replies. im now a senior. school is over and i accidentally put junior year. just to let u know if it makes a difference…

You cannot do both the SAT I and the SAT II’s on the same day.

oh ok then. anymore chances?

You’ve got a good resume on hand. It shows you’re passionate about what you do (sports) but also shows off how well-rounded you are in your academics. I think you’ve got an awesome GPA for most of these schools, and I also think you should work on your SATS (1900+ but preferably 2000+ if you’re lookin’ at the Ivies).

It really does help that you are a minority, so express it in your essays or anywhere else. Speaking of essays, write a good one. But that’s just a given.

UCLA - Low Match
UCI - Match
UCB - Reach
UCSB - Safety
UCSD - Match
UCD - Safety
UCR - Safety
SDSU - Safety
Stanford - High Reach
University of Oklahoma - Match? I don’t know UO that much.
Cal Poly Pomona, SLO - Match, Safety
Cornell - High Reach
USD - Match
USC - Match/ Low Reach
Dartmouth - High Reach

Good luck!

bump…

I would say match to most UCs (safety UCR, UCLA and UCB are reaches for most people… but ur an URM so that should help especially at UCB).
stanford is a reach for everyone.
Cornell: reach not neccessarily high reach.
Dartmouth: reach.

me want bump…

hit it up with a bump!

I’m going into my junior year and I really want to go to UCLA or USC. This upcoming junior year I’m taking DE US history, AP english, chemistry, algebra 2 and student council. Freshman and sophomore year i took all the basic classes no AP or pre AP classes. So it was algebra 1, world history, spanish 1,spanish 2,geometry, english 9,10 and some electives. I played varsity basketball 1 year and I’m in a summer hoops like and have been in for two years and plan on it for two more year. I have volunteered for a junior high volleyball team for two years and will also do that for two more years. Also i did some tutoring not much but some in english. I want to get a summer job next summer but I don’t know what would look good on an application Any suggestions? Also any good ideas for volunteer work?

I had a 3.5 GPA freshman year and a 3.75 sophomore year both UW. Assuming I have a solid GPA the next two years get a good summer job and do about 150 hours of volunteer work along with writing good essays(which I know I can do) and getting good scores on my ACT and SAT what are my chances at UCLA,USC,UCSB,UCSD,UOFA,NYU,Oregon.

^^deez, don’t hijack (airline style) soccer dude’s thread!!! :o :o °(-_-)°

soccer dude, up the SAT scores.

also, if you are really serious about going to an Ivy league college, take more SAT II tests from, like, every subject area (if you can do good on them, for instance: science, math, history, english, language, etc…)

Another note: you’re a damn good track & field athlete if you competed in CIF. Why don’t you try to contact dartmouth’s track coach (or all the other school’s coaches) and show your interest into his/her track team? If successful, you may go into dartmouth (provided your academics stay strong) as a walk on, or even better, an athlete on a full ride to dartmouth?

just my 2 cents. good luck, good skill on pursuing your dream schools.

LEMON

haha i was about to comment on deez hijack attempt haha.

the hairy lemon:
yeah, i already sent information to dartmouths coach for track and field. they already sent me information and a brochure about their track team and what not. im kinda hoping uci, ucsd, and ucsb take me in. already sent them info. but havent reply back (hoping that its because of the july 1st thing). i wish i can go into ucla’s track team but thats not going to be possible. :(

And about joining UCLA’s track team. Is it possible to join their track team by first getting accepted and trying out later on? I know there isnt a chance for me to get their attention with my stats this year and with the idea that im new in my junior year.

Hey guy’s I’m sorry. I’m new at this. Didn’t mean to impose.

^ haha, it’s fine. I was just messing with ya… :P

you’re in at all except maybe dartmouth stanford and cornell. your incomes kinda high and sat is too low for them. also your sat scores in math and spanish might change your chances for ucb and ucla. also how can your uc gpa be higher than yur weighted? uc’s only count up to 4 years of honors/ap courses in 10th and 11th so its max gpa is lot less than max weighted gpa.

sure. you can join as a walk on on like your soph year… from what I heard. (i’m no expert on college athletics.)

then again, should you get accepted into UCLA then have a stellar (league finals, CIF, nationals? i dunno… )track season right after the UCLA acceptance, then I’m sure they’ll open their eyes and ears about your stellar performance. Or, bug’em about wanting to join their track team… ;)

¿anyone want to chance the Lemon, por favor? mucho gracias: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/726718-curious-chances-least-uc-irvine.html

HAIRY HAIRY SOUR LEMON

to 92: i have no idea how the UC GPA works. even on my transcript, its higher than my W GPA. i even asked the counselor if that was my UC GPA and she said yes. thank you very much for ur chance!

hairy lemon: i didnt know that u could do a walk on. that sounds pretty cool. i guess i gotta try to make state then. i really dont want to end my track season next year.
