My previous school education system was totally different from America's, they don't require any community hours, extracurriculum activites or sports(because they are already include in the school's curriculum) therefore I'm a deep disadvantage to many other students.

You will definitely get in IF you show interest through doing an interview and doing an official campus tour. Be sure to register when doing the tour.

Thank you 1980college grad, but what if I don’t have the money to make an official tour? And would my chances decline if I show them my SATs scores?

They can arrange an interview with an alumnus in your geographic area and will understand if you are too far away to take a tour. If your SATs are out of 2400 I would not send them. Your combined SATs should be 2000+ if you were to send them.

1980collegegrad, are you saying that you shouldn’t submit with lower scores than 2000? On HC site it said the average SAT score was 1280.
“Students rank in the top 7 percent of their of their high school class. About 70 percent submitted SAT scores, despite the College’s test-optional admissions policy. Average SAT scores among those students was 1280.” On US News it was 1180-1350.
I am taking my twins to visit this weekend, although my son didn’t get enough money to attend 3 years ago. “Maybe” with 2 in college it will be different but I told them it would not be a safety in any regard. (neither are in sports)
One of my daughters doesn’t do well on SAT/ACT tests, part of it is anxiety. She will do better on a practice test. She said taking it more doesn’t ease it because each one becomes more important (which makes sense in a way) Her grades are very good, challenging classes, good AP scores, a Yale class, but it doesn’t reflect in her overall score (math brings it down) She did get 11 and 12s on the essay though.
I hope HC can see her as holistically as possible.

Debruns: I was just giving you my general rough opinion based on the averages and what I had heard from possibly unreliable sources. If I were you I would speciifcally ask the HC admissions staff. My gut feeling was that if your SATs scores are well above the average submit but best to ask the source and find out what they recommend.

I will do that, but I had known people with 1250’s and 1300 (old score) that got in, in the past. I’m sure they would like more in the higher range, but they also say they look at everyone as more than an number.
Providence was honest in saying 550 was a cut-off you can use to determine whether to send, and they would look at your other submissions instead.

They definitely look at the person as a whole and even more importantly look at the interest level of the candidate. They really want people that have a genuine interest in HC and so if it is the number one choice I would strongly recommend early decision. The bar is lower for ED. In any case an interview and tour is a great way to show sincere interest. Back when I got in I had a 1290 and it was above the average but that was too long ago to be meaningful today ;->

I was only quoting what they use from their common data set or what US News obtained. They didn’t seem to use the writing score. I was surprised in the last few years how many students don’t submit, almost half, but they still have a strong class and rigorous academics.

Wait, did I mentioned that my SAT scores were 1420 over 2400? Through your comments, then ok, I won’t send them. However,do HC know “intuitively” that the student has a horrible SAT score if I don’t submitted them?

I think it is reasonable to assume that they will know it is well below their average if you don’t submit, otherwise you would probably submit. They know that some people do not test well and that some do not have the financial means to get the test preparation help that wealthier students can afford or as in your case you are brand new to the USA and this probably has a big impact especially for the writing and verbal components. Being a small school they can take the time to look at the person as a whole and not just a number.

I agree and will ask more about it on our tour. They have a fairly good number of students that don’t submit and a high retention rate (over 90%) so that says a lot.

We did a self tour yesterday and found most people very friendly. They emphasized again that if you don’t feel your scores represent you, don’t submit, if you think they do, go ahead. For one of my daughter’s it’s hard, because hers are lopsided, she is proud of her English/writing scores, not her math. She does much better doing math in shorter portions, just can’t work fast enough to finish most of the time.
We will see, have a little more time to think about it since they don’t have EA.

Archi, you look like a great candidate to me. HC is truly test optional, it will not be held against you for not submitting your scores. I think the rest of your credentials speak for themselves. MY husband and I are HC graduates and our daughter is applying too. Good luck to you! I would contact admissions, about an alumni interview in your area.
