<p>i just ran a quick calculation based off their point system and i think you’re 0-100pts above the expected cutoff for this year. I think you’ll get in, but when it’s that close, it could be a toss up (cutoff increasing too much, or my calculations being off, or w/e reason)</p>

<p>Yeeaahh I have 500 pts for classes above the minimum, 300 for community service (i have more hours on my app than I wrote on my original post), 300 for 3 leadership positions, and another 300 for awards if you count 2nd place in a regional singing competition and multiple leads in school musicals… Thoughts? Can anybody clarify what actually constitutes as awards btw?</p>

<p>leadership - 300 pts if you hold a major position ie Junior class president, editor-in-chief of school newspaper, etc.
150 pts if you hold two minor positions, which are clubs, and you have to be President or Vice President/captain of a team should work too. That’s all that counts. NOthing else, they are very strict with points.</p>

<p>It sucks for me because I have placed 1st-3rd in 2 regional competitions, but one was national history day, which only said i was a “finalist,” so I don’t think I’m getting points for that…Also for my leadership positions I chose to put a Site Leader position in a research project instead of “Captain of C team” for Science bowl. THe first one is WAY more leadership, but I would have gotten points for the second one, so I’m not getting any pts for leadership =(</p>

<p>the Junior class leader probably isn’t going to be on their list. They’re looking for positions such as “[Class] Class President/Vice President” for the 300 pts. And for the 150 pts they’re looking for “President/Vice President/Captain” of a club or team so I think you’re out of luck with that.</p>
<p>It sounds like I’m being a harda$$, but the exact same thing that just happened to you happened to me and I’m not trying to be spiteful or anything. It’s just that the UCSD adcom is EXTREMELY picky with what it gives points for. A lot of students try to calculate themselves and end up with like over 8000 pts and end up getting rejected because they were too liberal with giving themselves points. Keep that in mind when you calculate your points. Regardless, you are close enough to the cutoff where I think you have a very good chance of getting in.</p>
