So...is there even a slight chance?

Take Bio SAT II – I did, without taking the AP course. Didn’t do great, but didn’t do badly. You should be fine with the AP background.

You seem to have a solid application. I think you’re fine… what is your race?

I think you have a good chance. If you get your common app done early (my advice would be do so), get Vanderbilt submitted early since it’s one of those schools that doesn’t have a supplemental essay with the app. Make sure your letters of recommendation and scores are all in to them as well so your app is complete and they can start reading. They read on a first come, first serve basis and I do think it helps if you submit before the deadline (I did). Also, Vanderbilt doesn’t care so much about SAT II’s. I took two in December and since I submitted my app in December they got mixed up in the sending. Basically, Vanderbilt only had one SAT II score for me until March (so my application was most likely read without my December tests). When I contacted them about it the mixup, they wrote “You can still send in those scores. I would not worry about rushing them as they are moreso used to help place you into classes for your first year.” So for Vandy, don’t worry so much about SAT IIs. Don’t forget the merit scholarship app! Even if you think you aren’t a candidate for the major three scholarships, still submit it because it gives you a leg up for their lesser merit awards (15k/year or 1/2 tuition, etc.). I know it’s annoying because it’s extra work that’s due when all the college apps are due, but think of it as Vandy’s supplement because there really isn’t one. Good luck!

One more thing - I would retake the SAT only, and forget about the ACT if you’re pressed for time. For one time on the SAT, that’s a really good score. I jumped 100 points overall the second time I took it. You want 2200+ for any Top 20 schools.

ACT’s couldn’t hurt… they only take one day, and you don’t really need to study for them. You probably already know this – they’re easier than the SAT but it’s easy to run out of time quickly… and you don’t get deducted points for wrong answers, so it’s okay to rush.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone By the way, what are the major three scholarships that are worth trying for?

Do I have to fill out the Vanderbilt Scholarship Application to be considered for merit scholarships at Vanderbilt?
The Cornelius Vanderbilt, Chancellors, and Ingram Scholarship Programs require students to submit the Vanderbilt Scholarship Application. It is also recommended that students who wish to be considered for any Additional Merit Scholarships submit the Parts I and IIA of the Vanderbilt Scholarship Application.

Can I apply for more than one merit scholarship at Vanderbilt?
Yes, you may apply for any or all merit scholarships in which you are interested.
