He has visited, toured, interviewed, and stayed overnight.
He really loves the school and wants to apply ED.

^I’m sorry – I’m no good at this whole “chance” thing. I was just curious if your son intended to apply to the college or the conservatory. I saw his passion for music. Is he wanting to attend the college and then, once there, dabble in the conservatory offerings? Or is it the conservatory he wants?

The answers to your “chance” question should vary depending on which one he wants.

he wouldn’t be applying to the conservatory, but would dabble in it’s offerings if accepted.

thanks for the response!

^Okay. But I’m still no good with chances! :)

If he were going for the conservatory, I would have made a few suggestions, like heading over to the music major forum.

My son applied, two years ago, to both the conservatory and the college. Got into both. If was far and above his first choice school, but Cost of Attendance (COA) was much higher for Oberlin, so he declined to attend.

But I’m not able to make any guesses about your son or anybody else’s kiddo unless their stats were pretty much exactly the same as my son’s! :)

formyson: Any “chance” opinions are just that—opinions, i.e., guesswork. But I think he’s demonstrated solid interest in Oberlin. His chances are better in ED than RD, in my opinion. He’s also a male. Oberlin is something like 55% female. There are numerous articles on the 'Net about admissions at schools with predominantly female students being tougher for girls than boys. LACs in particular tend to be majority female. I won’t comment on whether that situation is fair or not (I have three daughters), it just “is.” If he writes a bang-up Oberlin essay, I think your son has a pretty good chance in ED.

His SAT score is quite good for Oberlin, but everything else is a little underwhelming. ED would be an excellent option; if he does, he has a good shot at acceptance.

if by “stock” you mean cattle he’ll be perfect for the rurality of Ohio :-)

thanks everyone,
im sure he will be happy to read these posts.

and kei-o-lei, by stock i meant stock investment club :)
