Yes my D had all 4s and 5s for which they gave lots of credits.
Also in 2019 the top merit award was 20k. As @Mjkacmom notes they have dropped the top OOS merit award down the last couple of cycles.

In this case, BU meets need and OP suggested the NPC shows they have need - so it wasnāt a merit case.
I personally think OPās expectations on merit are a bit high but OP does have experience from a year or two ago and OP did listen to those on here and did tour the high merit schools but the student didnāt like them. I suggested MS State as a sub for Auburn - very similar (IMHO).
And most importantly, you can only go to one - and OP has Bright Futures in the back pocket and the student loves FSU and while FSU isnāt easy, theyāll likely have a good shot - and itās likely thatās then where they end up anyway.
So if someone goes in with their eyes open and doing their homework and OP clearly has, I say good luck, let us know how it goes - and the important thing is - the student will have a great school to attend at a great cost - regardless. Even if all the OOS come too high and FSU doesnāt happen, FAU is a fine school. Someone I call on in South Carolina - her kid is going there for criminology over in state Clemsonā¦soā¦OP is in a good space I think - and Iām making that assumption that they can be excited about FAU. Boca is beautifulā¦I think thatās an easy thing to get excited aboutā¦ except.Iām just always fearful of a gator attack when Iām on my daily walk/run.
I know grad school is totally different (BU actually gave my daughter a bit of merit for her DPT program, still very expensive but enough for her to turn down NYU). The lack of merit gets discussed on the parent Facebook page.
I missed where need was mentioned, the OP said they hoped to get enough merit to bring tuition down to $20,000 - $30,000 but can afford to pay more.
Yeah - for the publics you are correct and hence I think many peopleās assessments on Auburn/Clemson were itās not going to happen, etc. but for the two privates OP said what was quoted - so I assume that has to be need aid.
If BU or ND are within budget + considering the stats/profile OPās daughter will surely get into FSU if not UF, I see no problem with throwing your hat in the ring and applying ED to either BU or ND.
As long as youāre willing to pay if she gets in and donāt pull the rug from under her OR make it clear sheās only applying āto know if she could get inā but itās not on the table unless costs are $XX,000, not sure why EDing ND or BU isnāt on the table -especially if sheās watched all ND football Games in forever.
32k is close enough to 30k that it could be doable if she gets in; 38k would likely be more of a stretch so only you can estimate affordability but she has a shot if she applies ED.
Donāt forget to apply to the Honors college at all Florida schools + NCSU. It doesnāt add much at UF but it makes a difference at FSU and UCF honors is awesome + scholarships more likely.
My son received Merit scholarships only to Clemson and UGA which brought the total to close to in-state pricing
Thank you again! Iām hoping she gets into FSU early and is happy enough to choose there. I think some schools she is applying to more for āfunā. Which I am fine with especially ND and BU since they are our alma maters.
Yes it was merit only for my son.
I agree, BU is crazy expensive, it was when I went there too! I did undergrad and grad for PT there, but at the time it was #1 in the country for PT, so worth the price and my parents could afford it.
Yes, you are correct, UF claims they donāt accept summer or fall any different, but from what I have witnessed and the latest SUS stats, summer is definitely lower stats. I figure itās worth a try and to get summer out of the way for required credits. My son is a sophomore there.
Umm.yeah, regarding thatā¦
AOs have priorities. One of those at private schools is meeting the revenue target. Just some friendly advise.
My statement had nothing to do with need and was in response to someone talking about a kid in grad school.
My daughter got her undergrad at UDel and I think they have the #1 program now, she was accepted but really wanted an urban campus. At this point itās her money, I donāt think BU costs much more, but rent is definitely higher.
I do not know have you seen my experience about BU posted in other threads. My oldest had very high stats and very much liked BU. We visited too and did official tour and admission session. She was in shock not be accepted at all with GPA close to 4.0, technical magnet, SAT 1560 and good EC. She got a nice letter:"We would like to have you as a transfer student. " So she was good for CMU, UMD, CWRU, UMich, GaTech but not for BUā¦ Then our friendās daughter applied the following year. Got in JHU, Yale, Brown and also denied at BU. Weāve learned that BU likes to yield protect, and does not want to be a backup school for top studentsā¦ So if your daughter is very interested do pre-read for FA (if it is available at BU) and apply ED. If not ready for ED, forget about BUā¦
I disagree. Early registration is huge. Some perks with advising. Also, isnāt the new Honors complex opening soon at UF?
Yes half the new honors complex is now open, with the rest opening this year.
I agree, I took her to show her Boston last summer and all the great schools there. Ironically she like BU the best, which made me happy, but I think realistically it isnāt a possibility, but fun to apply anyway.
If she likes it best, are there any uber urban campuses where sue can get in and get to budget ? Not sure - maybe someone has an idea. College of Charleston if she can earn a Charleston Fellow award.
NYU meets needā¦.
It was her favorite of the Boston area schools not her overall favorite. That is still FSU and NC State followed by TCU and Auburn.
I think sheās going to FSU then !! Hopefully.
