All of his ECs involve math and science...for instance, he's captain of the math team at school. Also has a job during the school year. Overall, ECs are not that that strong.

Don't know what else I can list here...just wondering whether he has a solid chance ED for SEAS; he's only interested in engineering.

Thanks.

He has a good shot, but SEAS has become increasingly competitive over the last few years, and his SAT scores put him about 100 points below the 75%tile. However, being valedictorian will certainly give him a boost. Essays will be important.

id say he has a pretty strong chance under ED, his sats show definite proficiency in math/sci but his 660 and 640 arent stellar. i dont think thats a problem though, as his valedictorian status and math/sci ECs would probably overshadow that, especially if he applies for early decision.

Well, if it were maybe 2 years ago, I think you'd have a very good chance, however, the fact of the matter is that SEAS has become drastically more competitive, passed the point where academics are the main determining factor, where the crapshoot facotr starts to kick in.

Well yeah, i agree. Thats why i said he has a "pretty good", not "definite" chance of getting in. But still, even with good stats like that the "crapshoot" effect, if you will, might knock him out and he would tragically have to join the fine engineers at upenn ;)

is CC more selective than SEAS or something, or aobut the same?

^Depends on who you talk to.
They share the same admissions committee.
CC has a lower acceptance rate.
SEAS has a higher average GPA and SAT score.
