Chance my friend?? I will chance back!!!

Hi, my friend doesn't have account so he asked me if I could make a chance thread for him.

He is a junior in HS
GPA like 3.6 UW.
As many honors as possible, with 4 AP's so far with 3 more senior year.
Rank is 268/788 (super competitive HS) (will probably be top quartile by end of second semester)
PSAT - 1560
SAT - 1480 M:560 CR: 480 W: 440 (he knows he did horrible and is sure he'll get it up to 1600 at least) (got a 7 on essay but isnt that great in English literature and syntax) amazing writer though. ( kind of a paradox haha)
Has gotten over 1700 on all practice test he has done (doesn't know why he did so bad on official SAT)
Second language is English.
Not very many EC, haha barely any actually
EC: Writing contest for English 3 AP.
Very good at basketball and soccer (recreational)
Has played piano for 12 years of his life, he is 16.
He is an exceptional writer and overall very smart, just lazy. But he has matured and knows what lies ahead.

He wants to attend:
University of Texas at Austin (McCombs) & (is overt to CAP program)
A&M (college station)
NYU(haha super far fetched in my opinion)
Texas Tech
St. Johns (NYC)
Any more suggestions??
Please chance I'll chance back!! Promise!!!

So the schools you mentioned were … University of Texas at Austin (McCombs) A&M
NYU(haha super far fetched in my opinion) Texas Tech

I’m assuming either your friend is in love with Texas or he’s instate. In state admissions chances are obviously higher. You didn’t mention what he wanted to do … you kept mentioning writing … so I’m assuming English or Journalism.

UT at Austin- In (write good essays and cement your admissions)
A&M- REach… im not tooo familar with admissions but i think that this is a low reach for your friend (once again essays are important.
NYU- This a mega reach … but who knows and doesn’t hurt to apply, and writing or journalism in NY would be amazing.

chance me back at
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1087261-what-my-chances-if-i-go-competitive-higschool.html

Yea sorry I forgot to put what he wanted, lol no he doesn’t want English… He wants Business Administration. He is in Texas. And he ideally wants McCombs school of business. So he has a chance at UT with a 1480 on sat? He will retake.

Sorry … my only chance thread is messed up cause i went of English

Ya you definitely need a higher sat for UT and in general for the SAT

With say, an 1800 SAT ( highest he thinks he could get) is that enough to get into UT? Or is he going to be admitted in the CAP program?

I think UT and A&M are the only shooins, albeit with a higher SAT. Probably somewhere around mid 1700s would be good.

NYU, St. Johns are pretty high reaches, in my opinion. Tech is a lower reach school.

Definitely get a higher SAT, and possibly take the ACT. See what happens from there.
