Chance my S please.

I would like to know what my son's chances are of getting in. He has received scholarship from other schools that put the cost around $30k. I am having a hard time with $56k for Vanderbilt but it is one of his top choices even knowing he would have to take out loans.

Here are his stats.
National Merit Commended Scholar
GPA 3.55 - private school
AP: USHistory 4, Government 4, Calc and Physics this year.
lots of honors classes
SAT: 2050
ACT: 31

Varsity Football -3 yrs, Varsity Basketball - 3 yrs, AAU Basketball - 2 yrs, Track - 1 yr.
community service to meet school requirement.

Father attended Vandy for Masters and Ph.D. in EE.

I actually don't think he has much of a chance to get in, but would like to hear what others think.

I cannot say with confidence that he’s getting in. I also cannot say that he has no chance, either. I know this isn’t really that helpful, but don’t lose all hope.

They can either admit him for sports if he is recruitable or legacy.

thanks for the comments. He was getting recruited for the ivies for football and then he suffered a fractured back beginning of his senior year. So sports is no longer on the table. Good news is that his back is now completely healed. He is focused on academics. He unfortunately started focusing the 2nd semester of his Junior year so GPA is not where it should be.
