F22 datapoint: 4.0uw, 1550 SAT, CS major received $25K scholarship and $3K “Tiger Excellence Award” from UOP.
The holy grail scholarship is the Powell Scholarship. Up to $45K/yr, but you need to apply for the scholarship early (~Dec 1st?)

It is in Stockton. Definitely visit before applying.
Um, did I miss it?
What course is he using for the F requirement-Visual & Performing Arts?
I agree that this student would HAVE to visit U of P. It’s in a very “different” environment.
I did not include non A-G courses. He completed “ENGR Introduction to Design” in 9th Grade which comes under VAPA.
The F requirement is a within the A-G coursework and is vital for admission.
Without it, students are rejected, that’s why I’ve asked.
As noted by @aunt_bea the VPA requirement F is an A-G course. If the Engineering course is a Non A-G course it would not fulfill the requirement. I think you mistyped and just meant you did not list 9th grade A-G courses on the original post?
Yes, I mistyped as I did not list 9th Grade courses. I need more coffee in the mornings
SFSU is not campus impacted, but is impacted in some majors. CS and engineering majors are not among the impacted ones.
In general, the less selective CSUs are less likely to be major impacted in CS or engineering. But check campus web sites for details.
After a week, his counselor replied saying he’s top 10% of class but for ELC, was asked to check UC App after submitting application
He still has not started on his PIQs, not sure how to motivate him. Asking him to first select the 4 PIQs he wanted to write about.
ELC does not use high school class rank.
What happens is that the high school submits anonymized course/grade records to UC, which recalculates GPAs by the UC method to find a “top 9%” threshold GPA. Current year applicants will get ELC status if their UC recalculated GPA exceeds that threshold GPA for their school. The school’s threshold GPA is recalculated every few years.
FYI - Engg Undeclared is the hardest “major” to get admitted to within COE (~3.5% admit rate). I would pick a major that’s closest to his interests.
Thank you. I asked my son at Cal to get access to “CalAnswers” so he can share the admit details for all the engineering majors.
DS got a mail from UC confirming he is ELC eligible. He did not start his PIQs and (I think) waiting till October first week when his school has sessions planned.
My other son could not get access to Cal Answers. Is there anyone who can find this information on the number of applicants, their GPA/Admit ratio etc for all UC Engineering majors especially Berkeley, Davis and Santa Cruz?
UC Davis does not list admit rates or GPA ranges by major. Overall UW UC GPA middle 50% was 3.82-4.00. Middle 50% for Capped weighted UC GPA 4.03-4.21.
CS /CSE and ME are now listed as Selective for UC Davis and estimated admit rates were below 20% for 2022. Still looking for update 2023 enrollment and yield data.
UCSC data is not updated for 2023 so the data tables I posted before are still the most recent UCSC data.
Thank you, you are a life saver and @ucscuuw too.
Question to @Gumbymom and @ucscuuw and other UC/CSU experts.
My son is self-studying for AP Calculus BC and I think it should not be reported on his senior year classes as he will not have Grades for Calc BC.
He wants to explain this in the section at the end where you can enter comments.
Is this the right way to add this information? He has only 4 classes his senior year without Calc BC (rest 2 are Teachers Aide and some kind of open period) which doesn’t show his academic strength.
I agree with you. He shouldn’t report it as a class if he is just self studying for the AP exam. However, if he is taking it online through an accredited school then he should report it as a senior year class. Interested to see what @Gumbymom says.
He’s not taking at any online school but at his school itself(Teacher has agreed to add him to Google class and School pays for AP Exams).
He completed Calc BC course in Khan Academy this summer.
