Chance? [not so competitive]

I’m not the greatest student out there. I won’t lie, I really want to get into this school and I realized that I’ve been doing a bit badly in high school. But I want to get this anxiety off my chance by seeing if you guys (or girls) can help predict/determine what my outcome would be. I’m also well aware that this is a reach school but I’m trying everything In my power in order to get into this great college (or university =])

Basics
Asian American Male
3.4 GPA weighted
35th/101
Private School, not widely known.

Tests
SAT: [CR 480], [Math 480], Writing 500
—SAT scores from June. I retook it in October and I’m sure I did better. Also going to take it again in November

SAT II: [Literature 490], [Mathematics Level 1 440], [U.S. History 470]
—SAT scores from May. I took it just to see how well I would do. Turns out I did horrible.

Academics
I didn’t excel in school like my other friends did so I was pretty much separated into the regular CP classes.

JR Year
HCP English - B+/A-
HCP World History - B+
CP Spanish III - B+/A-
CP Chemistry - C/C+ (I’m horrible at chem)
CP Theology III - A
CP Algebra II - C+/B- (Also bad at math…)
SAT Prep

SR Year (currently…)
HCP English - A
CP Italian 1 - A
CP World Religions - A-
CP Trigonometry - C+ (was confused but I understand somethings now. Hopefully I can bounce back with tests)
CP Physics - C- (I’m missing a lab but I didn’t really understand it much. Hopefully I will do significantly better on future tests…)
Art 2 - A
Theatre/Drama design - B

This is the progress report so I have another half of a quarter to bring my grades up. I am confident that I can bring my Trigonometry grade up to a B/B+. My grades for physics, however, aren’t doing too well. I do try very hard in this class but it just doesn’t go through my head.

EC’s

Baseball (9th)
Basketball (10th)
Football (10th-11th)

Movie Club (9th)
Multicultural Club (10th)
Drama Club (10th-11th)

*
Clubs don’t stay for too long in my school (probably for one year or so). We constantly hire new teachers and lay some teachers off too. Teachers that leave bring the club with them though. Most clubs in this list were either broken or just discontinued, which can explain why I am only in it for one year…*

Hobbies
This is where I try to shine as much as I can as a unique individual.

Beatboxing (5 years)

Guitar (1 year)

Building Computers

College Related Stuff
College Essay: I wrote about my personal experience on beatboxing and why I love to do it so much. It’s more of a passion for me than anything. My teacher said it was good.

RECs: I currently have 3 letters from the different teachers. Two of them being from my Trig and Physics teacher and the other being from my Spanish Teacher.

Visits: I have gone to an open house a week ago. I plan on doing an interview with an admissions officer on the 25th. Hopefully my personality can be shown.

I really want to get into Bentley really bad. My cousin is an alumni and he said he had a great time there. So I want to include that in the interview too. I know there will be an unbelievable amount of kids that will apply but I hope I have what it takes to be considered for admissions…

If you are really set on Bentley then apply ED or EA. With your SAT scores, you would have a hard time getting in now, but if you did a lot better in October you may have more of a chance. Be sure to do an interview, and be very honest and just let them know what you are all about and how you are taking an initiative to improve. You are up against some unfavorable odds, but depending on how things unfold over the next couple of weeks you could have a chance. Good luck!

Thanks mate. That surely did make me feel better about my chances. I know I'm in a tough bind but I'm trying very hard to get back out. And indeed, I will apply ED.

Sanoskay, I am sorry to say that I don't like your chances. However, yes, you should still apply and apply ED. Little things can make a big difference there.

My son bombed the GMAT,which is required for grad school. He did, however, write two of the best essays that I have seen. It was better than I could have done, and I am a writer! At least for grad school at Bentley, he was provisionally admitted. So yes, apply to Bentley.

By the way, to give you an idea of how corelative standardized test were, my son graduated valedictorian from his program.
